I found this in another blog, http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=95273

I am about to try this...

Here is the gist of the blog:

Uninstall ATI's DAO from Add/Remove Programs (listed as only DAO in my Add/Remove Programs, but clicking support info revealed that it was ATI's DAO with support info at microsoft.com)
Uninstalling this DAO seemed to solve all the related problems for these users.

(DAO for ATI is only needed for the MMC Library to function, but seemed to continue to work for users even though DAO was uninstalled)

Install Roxio EMC 8

Users have also said that reinstalling ATI's DAO (from ATI's website) seems to be okay and doesn't cause the problems to come back.

Hi daniel001,
Thanks for the post here on DIO, this has been a well documented issue though the EMC8 forums since the release, and if you search the board you will see many posts related to the correction of these, but thank you for posting your update, as I'm sure there are new users here that may not be aware of the issue and the fix
regards
