As part of Roxio EMC 8.0, I got MY PC Backup, version 6.0.0. This appears to be the old sonic version that was in 2004, from all i can find by looking around various sites. It has been working for me, but I was in the mood to check different software options for backup. This resulted in me realizing 6.0.0 was really showing its age.
For example, you cannot resize some windows, you cannot do a disaster recovery over a usb port (i want to go to an external hard drive that is usb connected), and when saving to a file (my external disk as well as an internal disk) it is a little difficult to set the file name and where it goes (you can do it once you know how but it is a little clunky). Most of the defaults are to a DVD/CD drive. In EMC 9 there is reference to a new MY PC BACKUP, but the version is still 6.0. Are there any significant changes to this version backup version (I don't need the other components of EMC 9.0, which seem to be video or mobile related). I like the software (although i prefer backup to be in original file format rather than proprietary format). But, the main reason i would change products is for one that is more current than MY PC Backup seems to be. That is why i am writing - is there a new version in the near future? What is in the backup program of EMC 9.0 that is different than that in EMC 8.0? thanks for any advice, Roger |

The version (7) that comes with EMC9, the last I heard did not have a DR option. I believe because of the requirement for floppies. There was an update I believe that did make it compatible with Vista. Also you can find a standalone version of 7, but only in Europe, sold with the Orlogix name. http://www.orlogix.com/prodinfo.php?pn=bump7 -------------------- Marlin

In corresponding with Roxio about My PC Backup versions, I got this response.
------ The BackUp MyPc that is included with Easy Media Creator 9 is version 7. It has been updated and upgraded to improve the software since Creator 8. Here is a link for a free trial of Easy Media Creator 9. You may install this version and see if it is what you are looking for. EMC 9 Trial -- http://www.roxio.com/enu/promotions/landing/creator_trial/ ----- I was going to download it to understand the details, but the file is about 500 MB - so i did not. There is not much explanation of what is in version 7 on the Roxio web pages, so you apparently have to download the full EMC 9 to find out. Roger |
