Video Wave 9 - Will Not Render Anything, Program hanges when "Create Video File" is clicked Options

I have tried various input source files and various output formats. They all hange when I try to render. My system is a new Dell XPS410 Core 2 Duo 2.4GHZ E6600 processor running Windows XP MCE using a 256MB nVidia GeForce 7300LE video card. I have easy media creater 9 version 9.0.088 build 900B88F, R03 installed. I have tried both hardware and software to render. The program selects hardware rendering if I let it choose. No matter what I try the program hanges when I try to render.

Make sure you have the latest nVidia driver.
What type of file(s) are you adding and where did they come from?

Hi Gary thanks for the reply. I took your suggestion and downloaded and installed the latest nvidia geforce 7300LE driver (ver 8.2.6.8) from the Dell web site. It was a good suggestion but did not fix the rendering problem, the computer still hanges up. The files I am trying are avi from my panasonic mimiDV camcorder, mpg from various sources and a slide show from jpg images compiled in videowave 9.

What's the driver version? Contact Dell to see if you can use the drivers directly from nVidia. Dell's drivers may still be behind what nVidia releases. My HP also had the 7300LE when I purchased it. I later upgraded to the 7300GS that I purchased retail. It's made by 3D Fuzion, but i can use the drivers from nVidia.com.

I tried nVidia first but could not find driver for 7300LE. The driver from Dell is version 8.2.6.8 dated 6/16/2006. That may be the most recent one. I think you are right at some point soon I would like to get a better graphics card for now I am still trying to get this one to work with VideoWave9. I have a ticket in to Roxio tech support but have not yet received a response.

As for codecs I do have other video software applications that I have installed. I am not sure how each program decides which codec they will select. Do they use the codec file name? or do they overwrite each using the same name. I noticed that the video codecs are stored in or near the application directory. My guess is that they do not overwrite each other.

When I run dxdiag.exe (Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility) several of the Roxio codecs are not checked for MCE(Microsoft Media Edition 2005) compatible. I think this means that the codec has not yet proven that it passes the MS standards for a particular application. I have listed below the video codec results from running dxdiag.exe on my Windows XP MCE computer.

After a lot of trying I did get videowave9 to render a few simple videos but most combinations still hang up the computer. Here are my results:

AVI to DV AVI - OK
AVI to small AVI - hung
AVI to mpeg2 better - OK
AVI to mpeg2 small - hung
AVI to mpeg2 good - OK
AVI to mpeg2 generic good -OK
AVI to mpeg2 generic medium - hung
AVI to mpeg1 - hung
mpeg to any - hung
slide show to any hung

I think you where correct it looks like video codec issues. The lack of proven windows xp mce 2005 compatibility for most of the roxio video codecs makes me also think this is the probable cause of the program hang but I do not know how to fix it. I am now thinking I need to get a refund on this software.

Any other suggestions?

Should take you to the download page. The drive version is 91.47 and is the same one for WinXP MCE. This driver covers ALL of the nVidia chipsets.

I have WinXP Media Center 2005 on my HP and have no problems. Roxio now licenses a 3rd party video codec and I don't think that compatibility is the issue. A 'merit' value is given to codecs in the registry which means some codecs will never be used by MCE, but only by the application that installs them.

I was able to render several slide shows and to render from and to mpeg files. Over course nothing is ever easy the new driver has a max resolution setting of 1600x900 and the old one had 1680x1050. For some reason all my fonts are fuzzy and my TV video in the Media Center is also a little fuzzy. My monitor is a 20 inch UltraSharp 2007FWP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel. My approach at this point is to switch back and forth between graphic drivers when I want to use the video editor. Is there an easier way to do this then to re-install and roll back drivers. Maybe I should contact nVidia and ask them for help. Anyway thank for all your help. I could not have gotten this far with out it.

Try contacting Dell support if your XPS is new and covered under warranty. I had a similar problem with the same dell computer and they got back to me by connecting live with their help desk through the computer. They walked me through the steps to update my nvidia driver. So my TV media now worked fine and that fixed Roxio creator 9 also.
