I thought I burned data files (MS WORD- .doc) as data, but when I later viewed the CD, I saw 6 tracks and 160 MB used. How can I reverse or convert whatever happened to data files? Thank you.

No clue. What are the file extensions you see on the CD?

I don't see the names of any files or extensions. I just can see that there are six tracks and the size of each track. When I initially open the CD, no file titles display. I hunted until I found the tracks listed; each track has no name. Thanks.

Sounds like you used the audio function with data files.Do you still have the files?If so just pitch the disc and start over.What application did you use to make the disc?

I used the full Roxio Creator 8. I do not have the original files. Does not sound like these files are recoverable? Thanks.

I don't think this is a big problem. Data Discs being misidentified as Audio CDs is not unheard of… Sometimes a reboot will clear it up other times a firmware update for the drive is in order.

Do you have another PC you can try the discs on?

Since he doesn't have the original files, this could be a big problem.

There is only a single bit on the disc that determines if it is an Audio CD or a Data CD. If that bit isn't being read correctly, or was written incorrectly, then you may have a difficult time. You may need one of the data recovery products often listed here, ISO Buster, CD Roller, or CD/DVD Diagnostics.

It is most unlikely that the burn is bad as this 'problem' is pretty common and a firmware update usually fixes it.

If not, the recovery programs you listed would be the next step.
