OK, it's not using 100% CPU, but it's 100% of one of the CPUs in my system. Is anyone else seeing this, or is this a problem only I am seeing because my uninstallation of previous Roxio/Sonic products didn't go as smoothly as it should have when I installed EMC 9.

As soon as I installed EMC 9, the first thing that I did was disable RoxWatch via msconfig.

When you first install V9 Media Manager scans your hard drive for potential media files both audio and video.While it's doing this it uses lots of cpu cycles.Depending on how many files and different folders they are in determines how long it takes.
If this is still happening then just disable it.Go to Start,Run and type msconfig.When the box pops up go to the startup tab and look for that entry.When you find it uncheck it,click ok and reboot your computer.When it restarts put a check in the little box in the corner of the popup that appears.This will stop it from loading at boot and should solve the problem
Others have had the same thing happen and this is how you stop it from running again.

Is there a way to contact the Roxio developers to make this a selectable option? We should not have to mess with msconfig when the Roxio could easily handle this.

Using msconfig I disabled: 1. Roxio UPnP Render 9, 2. Roxio Upnp Server 9, 3. LiveShare P2P Server 9, 4. RoxMediaDB9, and 5. Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 9. When I boot I get the following msg, "Runtime Error! Program RoxWatchTray9.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way."

First go and reselect what you unselected in msconfig.An easier way may be to just let it boot then once it does go to the Task Bar,right click on the Media Manager icon and select "Stop Watching folders".Also click on "Close and remove".See if this stops the problem.

I was able to select "Stop Watching Folders" ... but could not find "Close and Remove". I rebooted. The Media Mgr no longer shows ... I still see RoxWatchTray9.exe listed as a process in my Task Manager.

Oops. I just realized that I had the wrong tab selected: Services instead of Startup. I re-enabled the services, and disabled RoxioWatchTray9.exe from the startup ... it is now gone ... and no error msgs.

Having same prob with RoxWatch9. Using Win2000. Tried Run>msconfig and got message file or path can't be found. I checked tray icons and have NO Media Manager running. I tried to stop the process via task manager and got message "access denied" when I am logged in as an Administrator (!). I think this thing was installed when I loaded the software that came with my Blackberry Curve and I'm royally pissed I can't seem to get rid of or stop this process. Any other suggestions? I need optimum performance out of this PC as I'm a day trader adn this stupid process is slowing down my trades because the PC keeps stalling.

Go to Control Panel, Services and find the Roxio service. From there you should be able to disable it. A brute force way to do it would also be to find the file and delete it!

barkway,Windows 2000 doesn't have msconfig in it.You can get a version you can install and then run in Windows 2000.
Have a look here for a little explanation and a place to go for the file.
Once you install and run it you should be able find it then.

you just right click the icon near the clock and select 'select folders to watch' in the window that opens at the bottom there is a box to uncheck regarding watch folders at startup.. Weird place to put this option versus an 'options' selection in the right click menu, but at least it's there.
