Once the dvd is burned it will play in the computer but taking it to my two dvd players connected to the tv sets, the dvd players do not recognize the disc.

You'll have to give us more info than this. How was this burned? What type of disc was it... +R or -R? Some players don't like certain brands of media and others only play + or - and not both.
Also, some players don't like home made discs as much and some tweaking may be required. Some have found burning to an ISO first then to disc at a slower speed helps.

I had the same problem. Played on the computer, but not on the DVD. I'd done all the usual stuff...updated video card hardware and software, chose good disks, burned to ISO then disk, etc, etc. My computer system is excellent, XP, 3.4 GZ, 2G RAM, Direct X 9, etc, etc, etc. I couldn't figure it out.

Then, a computer friend of mine suggested that maybe my DVD player didn't have progressive scan or that it might be going bad. The player says "progressive scan" on the front, but I know that it is two years old. So, I went out and bought a new one. Lo and behold, the disk loaded quickly and started right up.

That does not mean your 2 year old set top DVD player is bad. It may be as simple as changing the media you use. Try it, and see if your older set top plays the DVD.
