Full Version: Rerunning Video Card tuning Tool?
Roxio Community > Easy Media Creator Products > Legacy Creator Products > Easy Media Creator 9 > Installation/Uninstallation/Update

Query:

While running EMC-9 for the first time, my computer got hung while the video card detection/tuning tool was running. Is there anyway to rerun the tuning app manually so that it can detect my video card and save the info properly?

TIA,

-Frank

Just run Videowave or MyDVD
On the menu TOOLS / OPTIONS
The graphics test is there. If the 'dot' stays on software render after the test, then your video card does not fully support the commands needed for the 3D transitions/effects and they will not be available.

The system requirements are stated on the box and online. ANY video card or chipset designed for an earlier DirectX will most likely fail this test. However, you should still be able to use Videowave/MyDVd in the software render mode. With that said, there are still some older cards that don't have updated drivers that can still cause issues.

After running a search this is the closest I found to my problem. When I open MyDVD or Video Wave I get this:

then

I have VIA/S3G onboard video. Windows Update does not report any available driver updates.

I learned a lesson. Never trust what windows update says.

I found a driver at driverguide.com, which windows said it's own was better, then I installed it anyway. Voila. Works now.

Never download a driver, for any hardware, from the Microsoft Updates site. Get drivers from the manufacturer of the hardware.

smile.gif Thanks a million for your advice.
I went to driverguide.com ......... downloaded the latest date driver for the VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP card dated 2006. Only 7 megs. This worked great ........ without any problems installing.

Can't tell you how grateful I am ........ after 3 months trying to sort it out.

Not so happy now!!
When shutting down the PC it seems only to do a partial close down of Windows XP. I still have disc access lights flashing and the screen keeps flashing no signal.
The only way I can shut down completely is to switch off at the mains power. Also I can't bootup unless I have switched off at the mains power first.

Help!!

Don't understand this response. I followed the forum recommendations and the SiS website identified my chipsets and told me which drivers to upgrade. I'm now between a rock and a hard place. If I roll back to the previous driver EMC 9 does'nt work. Guess I uninstall EMC and ask my retailer for a refund. Also publisize on the web that Roxio is crap!!!

I believe cdanteek is giving you information for you to be able to check with the manufacturer of your video card/chip to see about getting a driver from them that may work better for you.

The problem is not with the Roxio software you have, the problem is that your video card/chip does not meet the minimum requirements of the software.

All my searches show that the Video card is supplied by SiS to my PC manufacturer. (Medion). Why don't Roxio explain the requirements on their product. Perhaps because this would cut their market to far less.

I had no problem using my other software for creating DVD's with the old driver. What's so special with EMC9??

royc,

You jumped into this post at post #9. Have you read 1-9?

Did your PC shut down fine before the sis video driver?

You can install DirectX 9 on a PC with a non-compliant or not DirectX 9 video adapter and the system will say DirectX 9. I really doubt the Test Direct3D passed, with a 32Mb (IGP).

Have you looked into the other options I mentioned?

I have read the stuff, done MS Windows Install Cleanup which resulted in even more problems!! I have now done a System Restore to a date previous to installing EMC9. PC works so I will be returning ECM9 to my retailer for a refund unless someone can convince me that this install is worth continuing.

Shame, as I thought EMC9 was the answer to my Video needs.
