EMC 8 reports no disk when I use DVD -R. Tried multiple disks. Firmware is current. Drive is HP 740e What now?

BTW - In the knowledge base, it directs you to http://rpp.roxio.com/drives/?page=supported_drives to check supported drives. But that page does not exist! Instead you get an automatic re-direct to http://www.roxio.com/enu/solutions/roxiolabs/default.html.

BCONCOM,
Dosen't detect any media, or just DVD -R media?

Disconect your new DVD writer from USB and Power connectors and restart Windows. After Windows boots up you may connect the USB and Power connectors again. See if WIndows reconize the 740E as a new drive.

I have been finding that many of my clients reported similar "No Disc" errors when trying to access prerecorded media as well. What I found is that they were also running an application called xxxxx in order to allow them to duplicate commercial DVD content (For archival purposes only).

Disabling or closing the system tray control icon for xxxxx seemed to return normal control of the DVD burners to EMC-8 for both reading and writing.

Hope this helps, if it applies to your situation. smile.gif

I edited the above post to remove reference to any copyright ripping software.

The use of this is illegal - no matter what excuse you may have (and that includes 'archiving').

I understand that the use of the utility I indicated in my previous post is used by some to duplicate commerical media, a practice that is considered to be illegal. To my knowledge, this utility does not work as an add-on or in conjuction with EMC product. However, some users are running multiple applications that offer duplicate features and capabilities to those provided by EMC product. I was not intending to edorse the use of the utility, merely suggesting that I have found that in cases where users complain of unrecognized media, or a "No Disc" error, while this particular utility is launched and controlling the drives, EMC product may experience a problem with recognizing media, and that disabling the utility returns normal EMC operation, function and control.

My intent was to offer a possible solution to a technical problem. While I feel that it is a dis-service to those experiencing problems to have technically relevent material censored, this is not my message board, nor am I the moderator, so it is not my call.

It's just a question of 'better safe than sorry' really. Unfortunately, if we allowed posts which even hinted at ways to bypass commercial DVD protection, Roxio would be hit with a 'cease and desist' order faster than you can say 'ambulance-chaser' and we'd be in danger of losing the forum.

We all know there are ways to do it - it's just this forum isn't the place to mention them smile.gif

Understood - my apologies.
