Hello. I bought an I/O magic lightscribe DVD burner which turns out to be a Benq DW1625. I cannot get Lightscribe to work in 7.5. It doesn't seem to recognize the HP lightscribe CDR. When you go to print, lightscribe is suppose to show up in the printer selection. It works in Nero 6 which is the software that came with it. It seems to make it simpler. I did have to update Lightscribe patch to get to work though (in Nero). Not sure why I even bothered with this flaky technology but was tempted by it, since it was only $39 on sale. Any suggestion on how to get in to work in 7.5. I did run across specific free software which I haven't tried but would like to to work in Roxio.

Did you download and install the update for 7.5 Retail? I think it has more lightscribe support.

Also, Drag to Disk can create some problems if you've got the Nero packet writing software installed. I'd suggest uninstalling Drag to Disk.

Yes, I installed the update and I have Nero installed on another computer.

The only thing that works is "surething" from lightsribe.com. I don't know if it's a problem with my DVD burner or Roxio doesn't care much about this technology other than provide help that doesn't work. I haven't been too impressed with Version 8 to buy it and whether it does a better job anyway, as little is mentioned regarding Lightscribe support.

You might want to contact Roxio Tech Support. Lightscribe support is supposed to be part of the version 7 package. I personally don't think that upgrading would help this problem.

In the meantime, I'm glad you found something that works. If that program will burn 'image files' (.iso), you should still be able to do your movie in EMC 7. On one of my computers, I make the movies in EMC 7 and burn the .iso files with Nero (which came with the computer to burn DVDs.)

I'm just talking about Lightscribe. Everything else works fine. Surething is just a lableling program for Lightscribe technology at lightscribe.com. I suppose that's good enough for now.

There's one other thing you could check in addition to trying Tech Support. See if there are any updates for that DVD burner from IO Magic. The program gets information from the burner itself and if it's not getting the correct information, it might not recognize a disk. Sometimes even brand new burners have updates on manufacturer's sites.

rayi23, I had the exact same problem as you. Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 has been installed on my PC for quite some time. I recently purchased a new DVD burner, and specifically chose one that had lightscribe support. I chose the Benq DVD LS DW1655. I knew that Roxio had lightscribe support built in, so I wanted Roxio EMC 7.5 to work.

What I finally did to get it working tonight was install the LightScribe System Software Update (available from lightscribe.com).

Once installed, my Benq DVD Burner now shows up as a printer in Label Creator. I have not yet tried to make a disc label, but at least my drive now shows up as a printer.

Yup, what a number of folks don't know is that the driver(s) for the lightscribe burner has/have to be installed for it to work properly with software.

I have had Easy Media Creator 7 installed on my PC for some time now. I bought and installed a Liteon SHW-16H5S drive a few days ago, for the lightscribe capability. I don't want to install the Nero 6 that came with it, as I'm told that having the 2 programmes on the PC together can cause problems.

I have updated Creator 7, and also installed the lightscribe driver from the lightscribe site, but Creator 7 just doesn't seem to recognise that I have a lightscribe drive on my PC. It only gives my inkjet printer as an option.

I installed Sure Thing SE from the lightscribe site, and that works fine, but I want to be able to use my Roxio labeller. All Roxio could suggest, when I tried the web support, was to install the driver, which I have. Their next suggestion was to phone them, giving them my credit card number first. I'm not about to phone America at great expense (I'm in the UK) and also give them carte blanche to deduct whatever they wish from my credit card, as money is very tight.

Any suggestions how I can get lightscribe to work with my EMC7?

I am using Windows XP Home, with SP2.

I am not sure if lightscribe will be recognized with versions before EMC 7.5. I hope someone else can remember. Just another one of those senior moments.

You could also install the Nero. I have both Nero and EMC7 on my computer. You just have to be careful NOT to install the Nero packet writing software or UNINSTALL EMC7 Drag to Disk.

Thanks, Grandpabruce - I'm sure I read that 7 does have lightscribe capability, but I can't find anything at all in the helpfile on EMC7, and there's no mention anywhere of it. I'm sure the Roxio help line would have said if it was not compatible.

I would still love to be able to use EMC7's Label Creator if anyone can come up with a solution. I've even tried uninstalling the drive (via device manager), EMC7 and the lightscribe driver, and reinstalling in the following order: drive, lightscribe driver, EMC7 and updates, with no success.

As I recall, you have to be on at least 7.1.1.189 for this yo work. What version does yours show?

Go back and re-read cmockert's post. (post # 8 of this threrad). That is the best solution to getting any Lightscribe drive to recognize it's ability for burning labels. I had 7.1 on a laptop and with a Lightscribe drive and never got it to recognize to burn to that drive. Once I upgraded to 7.5 and updated it and downloaded Lightscribe's program, everything went O.K. after that. As far as I know, EMC 7 did not support the Lightscribe drives for burning labels. Someone correct me if I'm wrong
