Hi,

Now that I finally have my hands on the software, I have a feeling I'm going to be a major poster here!!

Anyway, I'm a total novice right now- about as novice as one can get. I wanted to see how Plug & Burn worked, so I connected my samsung DV via USB to my PC, then had to download drivers for my PC to see it in Device Manager, which it does. Then I had to upgrade the drivers for my video card (hey, at least my drivers are up-to-date now!), and everything seemed to be going OK.

When I opened up EMC9 and chose the Plug & Burn however, it didn't show anything in the dropdown box.

Any suggestions? Thanks, and looking forward to becoming a pro like some of you here!

Plug n Burn doesn't work with USB. Which model Samsung? If it is a miniDV camcorder (not miniDVD), you should be using a firewire cable to the PC. The USB is normally for transferring still images or connecting the camcorder as a 'webcam'.

Thanks Gary, you da man, yet again! I'm not sure what model it is (at work now), but I know for sure it's a miniDV camcorder. I'll get a firewire cable- sounds like it makes sense.

Should the connection through firewire enable EMC9 to see the miniDV camcorder, or are there any other possible steps I'll need to take? Thanks so much again......

As long as WINDOWS recognizes the camcorder on the firewire, then EMC 9 should. You should get the 'new hardware' notice and then a small camcorder icon will be in the systray when it is plugged in. Don't get a really cheap cable. I have seen a few cause problems. A decent cable will be $30-40 US. Walmart sells Belkin which is a fairly good brand.

Same problem but I have a Sony DCR-SR80. I read the solution from DigitalGuru but my problem is that my PC does NOT have a FireWire. Am I out of luck. It recognizes the camera as a removable drive under the photo tab but not the video tab. Any advise? Thanks in advance, A

Thanks Gary. I am posting your answer below for the benefit of all.

It does work using the software that came with the camcorder (cheap software calle ImageMixer) - I wanted to switch to Roxio since I had just bought it. Your response confirms my suspicion. The good thing is that I would not have to buy a new PC with FireWire smile.gif

Plug n Burn does not work with USB camcorders. Only through firewire. The Sony DCR-SR80 is a hard drive camcorder which does not have firewire either. Since your camcorder shows up as like an external hard drive, you should be able to use Windows Explorer and just copy the MPG movies to your computer.

Once the files are copied to your computer, youshould be able to use those files in Videowave or MyDVD.

Hope that helps
