I have Videowave 8 (purchased Oct 2006). I use it on win xp pro with pent 1.7g and 512mb ram. Everything works ok except it will not import/capture or recognize VOB clips. FRom what I have read on forums etc, previous versions of videowave could use vob. Can anyone please offer some help?

Nope. The first version that can imprt .vob files is EMC 9.
REDWAGON
"The BUP, IFO files on a DVD are not video files and cannot be opened by EMC (except EMC 9). The VOB iles are the files containing the actual video and can be played by some software players but not by Roxio. If you copy them to your hard drive and rename the vob extension to mpg you may be able to koad them into Videowave and DVD Builder."

NOTE: The Blue text in the quote above has been added by me.

Previous posts on this subject as shown above might be a possibility. Do a Search on VOB FILES and see what other information you can come up with. VOB files will not play on EMC versions of EMC earlier than 9.

adm,
lets try and fool old Roxio, ok!
When using windows xp.
Make sure the extensions of known files are shown.
In tools, folder options, view (tab), uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
Then right click rename a vob file and change to( 1.mpeg ) exactly like that, next one 2.mpeg and so on! Then try to open in videowave.

cd

Thanks for the help. I have tried changing a few to mpeg and that has worked ok although there does seem to be some propblem with large files - small files ok. I shall try some more in few days. Thanks again.

If these discs are from a Camcorder or Recorder, you must Finalize them or in the case of the Recorder, format the disc as Video (not VR) before you record on it.

VR is a different formatting and will fragment files which means the VOB may not be the complete file. – This may be why the longer vob's (fragmented) don't respond to renaming.

If the discs aren't in the (vr) structure, James talked about above.
And are in DVD video structure only change the large vob files like below.
First pic (Make sure the extensions of known files are shown) is checked.
Second pic unchecked.
Third pic vob changed to .mpg. This is a 20 minute Sony mini DVD-R camera disc.
The other small vob file is a menu. Everything I need is in the large vob. Videowave has
opened this file as .mpg in version 7.5, 8 and 9 trial.
