Been using BUMP successfully for some time now. Recently a hard drive crash required a reformat and reinstall of windows and all applications. Since that time I get catalog repair errors with BUMP virtually every day. After the repair BUMP works correctly until the next day when the cycle repeats.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the Roxio EMC 8 package, but the problem remains.

What cause this and how do I fix it?

This is a high end Gateway Desktop PC. No hardware changes since the hard drive crash. Running XP Pro. I use a combination of hard drive and DVD backup media. I have also tried different media, but the problem remains.

Is the problem occurring on new backups or just on old back ups done prior to the hard drive crash? If you were unable to copy the old catalog from the crashed hard drive, any catalog you create from device view is temporary. Also if you copied this file from a CD or DVD, make sure the catalog files are not read only and that you have rights to the file. To back up everything, I believe you have to have admin rights.

When you had the program working before the re-install of the O.S., and when you first installed Roxio's program, did you have to register or "activate" BUMP ?? maybe after you reinstalled Roxio's program it needs re-activation before it will work correctly again. Just a guess.

After the OS reinstall, BUMP was completely reinstalled and backups recreated. That the part that is causing problems virtually every night.

Thanks for the vote of confidence James. Don't know that I am an expert, but do get lucky every once in awhile.

This was a fresh install from original CD (actually download). Nothing was copied from previous installation. There are no Admin rights issues here, as I am only user on this PC with Admin control. Files are not read only.

Media includes CD, DVD, and file backups on various drives. Have also tried formatting of media with no difference.

Problem occurs virtually every day. After catalog repair, other backups work OK until next day, when cycle repeats.

This will lose the catalogs you have, although you can get them on a temporary basis from media view on restore. Go to the directory where the catalogs are. You can save off the files if this doesn't work and restore them. It sounds like the catalog structures have been corrupted on rebuild.
I believe it is c:\documents and settings\user name\application data\backup mypc or backup mypc deluxe. That or something close. It will have a catalog\primary subdirectory. Delete all the files under it and then restart BUMP. This will rebuild the catalogs from scratch. Do a backup so some data has been built into it a see if that fixes the problem. Again you will not be able to bring the old catalog into the new, but you can create a temp for restore of any files on the media.

I already tried this before and it did not help, but have tried it again. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning.

Interesting. Make sure that when you do this, that BUMP is not open at the time. If it is, the corrupted catalog, which is probably in memory would be rewritten.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, I have not had the corrupted catalog problem, although I have rebuilt them when I didn't like how large they had become from me forgetting to clear out old entries and compressing the catalog.

Edit - You may want to delete the whole catalog directory. It will be rebuilt. I am not sure if there are other files in the directories that may be indexed with files in the primary.
