I have had this problem for a while and chose to ignore it. Now it is stopping me from running some programs.
Awhile back I installed a virtual drive during am emc project. Windows designated it at drive "L"

Every time anybosy logged onto the PC we would get the message
Windows - no disk
please insert a disc int the drive. Three buttons titled "retry, continue and cancel" After a few time clicking continue or cancel the box would go away and I could continue on.
Now when I click a a few different programs they hang up and wont load, and the "windows-No disc box come up. The only way to stop is by totally rebooting.
I have gone into "tools" and deleted the disc. I look at "my computer and the drive designation is gone. However the problem still persists. But with a new box. This one states "please insert a disc into
\device\Harddisc2\dr4
I have pasted the messages into a word document but I dont know how to attach that to this post.

Please somebody help

go to start, run and type in msconfig

See if that has a line in it that starts up the virtual disc system (I'm using EMC9 and can't recall what the startup was in 8).

If it does - disable it.

What seems to have happened is that someone loaded up a virtual drive and 'dropped' the program without exiting (you can get the same message if you remove a CD before Windows shuts it down peroperly)

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. I did not see anything like virtual drive running. There was something from roxio running and I disable that.
I had to reboot. I still received the same message.

A long shot - try control panel, admin tools, computer management and then disk management to see if it's listed there - if so, remove it

I don't have EMC8 but if there is a module Disc Image Loader in EMC8, you may want to try launching that program and see if you can delete/uninstall the virtual drive from there.
