I've installed EMC9 twice now. The computer is a Dell, Windows XP Media Center, 100GB hard drive, 4 MB memory.
Still cannot run the program. When the Media Creator Home is started an error message stating: "Buffer Overrun Detected. Program: d\9.0\Roxio Central33\Main\Roxio_Central_33.exe. A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safety continue execution and must now be terminated."
I've completed the actions for a clean install and have ensured the Roxio services have been started.

I have installed the patch referenced above, and still get the same error message and program crash.

I too have had this buffer overrun problem with a Windows XP Media Center. I have copied these buffer overrun errors and plan to send them to Roxio when I contact them on Monday. I have also tried using their bo_hotfix.exe to fix the problem. Doesn't work.

Also, I have uninstalled the EMC9 and the problems go away.... hmmm...

Thanks Peye, it's nice to know I'm not alone, I guess.

I am having C++ buffer overrun problems associated with Internet Explorer ever since loading this software. Unfortunately, I am STILL having these problems even after unloading the software. However, I unloaded only the main program and the "Drag To Disc" program is still loaded. I will "unload" that next.

Did you also try to load the "Content" CD after loading the program CD? That did not load for me at all.

I didn't try to load the Content CD. I'd rather have the silly program running first!!

Is anyone else having this problem? I've submitted a Ticket item to Roxio but have heard nothing in return. I tried calling support but after being on hold for 20 minutes listening to how important my call is to them, I gave up.
So after two months I'm still left with a program I can't start or use.
Impressive.

I have been using EMC9 for 3 months. No problems & really like the software...THEN..the buffer overflow error as described in thread started. Performed all the suggestions (hot fix, clean install). I issued a web ticket on 01/25 & called tech spt on 01/26. It was tech support that suggested clean install. When I first opened EMC9 after clean install - seemed OK. Then closed it and re-opened, back came the buffer error. Of course, this all started when I needed to create a project for our Church! Anxious for a solution (other than re-install windows!).

I've hit this problem also and tried all the solutions suggested with no success. And for even more fun, when I tried a reply to the Roxio staffer who posted the hotfix i got a error response that the topic has been locked.
Looks like they are simply ignoring the problem.

Well I've given up. Absolutely no help from Roxio regarding the Buffer Overrun error, resulting in a program which wouldn't start.
I've decided to count my losses, uninstall the program for good and get something else.

This isn't Roxio tech support - we're just users the same as you. No answer probably means none of us know what the problem is.
Did yuou install anything else round the time the problem started? That's usually a good place to look as any number of external dfactors can be responsible. In the meantime, did you read
this?

I meant, no responses from Roxio Support. I've had a 'ticket' in with them for months, no response. No returned phone calls and after being on hold several times for over 30 minutes I give up.
I haven't installed anything since EMC9. It gave the Buffer Overrun right from day one. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling and running the patch indicated by other Users.
Still no resolution.

There's probably something else on your system causing that to be honest. Judging by the posts, only a few people seem to have that particular problem - however, did you read the MS kb article on Buffer Overrun?

I don't know what A/V you're using but it seems McAfee is in a bit of a huff about EMC - I use Symentec myself and don't have problems, but some people are reporting problems with McAfee - dunno how or why
