Please tell me if I've missed something at this early stage in checking out v9.
In previous versions I have been able to put together Music CD Projects from my analogue sources, complemented with those tracks that are on my other CDs, where they are available.
The resulting Project then referenced files from the analogue record/split/save process with the odd CD track referenced within it - i.e. the best version of the album I could reproduce.
I therefore had a permanent record of how these CDs were created and the ability to reburn it if necessary.

It looks like I can't do this with Music Disc Creator without keeping the saved ripped files as well as they seem to be what are referenced now. I don't really need these files on my HD - I have the CDs as the source.
Create a CD (I think it's called) will let me set up the CD to burn without (I think) creating a permanent ripped file but won't let me save the result as a project or a playlist - hence no record of what I've done.

Have I missed a way of doing what I want or is there another way?

PS: I did have some problems with my previous Projects if I couldn't remember which CDs had been used because Creator Classic (as it was then) wouldn't open the project until I had guessed the first CD required! However I suspect the change to this feature may have more to do with pressure from the record industry(?)

I guess this is in the wrong place - can someone move it into How To.

You can create track lists in Music Disc Creator. It is spelled out in the help files.

Thanks for your interest.
I need a bit more please. Track lists seem to be for Music DVDs - and adding tracks still copies the ripped tracks to my hard drive.
I am trying to avoid this extra filestore requirement. I already have vast amounts of analogue tracks saved (wav + mp3) to avoid going through the transfer and cleanup process again - CD-Rs don't last for ever you know!

I see what you mean.If you add tracks from a cd,instead of storing them in a temporary location and then deleting them it rips the tracks to your drive and they have to remain there or the project you save will come up "file not found" the next time you try to open the saved project.
I can't find any way around this. The saved project is looking for the file you ripped not the file off the original cd.If I remember correctly with older versions when you went to burn the cd you had to feed the source cd's in one at a time as the cd was created and the tracks were needed.

You are quite right.
I'm disappointed that V9 has changed this feature but hopefully I'll find other features that compensate.
In the meantime I have another question......but that's another post - this time in How To
