Next week I'll be buying Windows Vista, is this software compatable?

Will I have any problems activating it again? (it's alreay installed at the moment and I was wanting a dual boot system until all the software I use works with Vista)

Scott...anyone?

I was thinking of re-installing the OS also...I'm guessing it would be OK.

At present - nobody can say what is going to happen

Until Vista is released, it's unlikely that anyone will know really. There are RTM versions out, but who knows what MS will have ready as 'updates' on the release.

A word of warning tho - double-check the minimum requirements for Vista - then add 50% to what it says. Minimum requirements usually mean 'yeah, your system will work - but as to HOW it will work is something else again'

Personally - I'm sticking with XP
SS Scott
current release is not Vista compatible.

But re-installing XP shouldn't cause a problem?
SS Scott
the QA lab reimages all the time...should not be a problem

well, buying DVDit Pro HD was the most I've ever spent on a piece of software, it's never worked, now I'm upgrading my OS within a few weeks of buying it and it won't work anymore.

I'm not sure if I'm annoyed that I've wasted my money on something that's never worked and now never will with my OS upgrade next week (I'm not keeping XP now, all my other software is compatable) or if I'm happy that this non-working software can be uninstalled for good?!

Well, if you are going to go with Vista as soon as it's released, be prepared for more software and even hardware that won't work

Also, you should be aware that work has already started on SP1 for Vista - due for release in the second hald of this year

I don't use much software, and what I do use has already been tested and works with Vista so it won't be a problem

I know about SP1 and it's not due until Christmas, but all OSes need tweeking, SP3 for XP is due this year too

Do you not find it passing strange that a brand new OS needs a service pack BEFORE it has even been released?

Again - if you 'don't use much software' - why do you need a resource hog like Vista in the first place?

they worked on a SP for XP before it was released too, seems like the norm these days, yet everyone uses XP now!

I don't NEED vista, I'm getting it free and it's the future OS that everyone will have (have you seen how many are on pre-order already?), but you're digressing from the OP

OK - back to the original point if you will

Roxio have said (as far as EMC9 goes and this probably also applies to other Sonic s/w) that a patch will be released AFTER Vista is released. That's as much as anyone knows right now

As for getting it free - I was at the launch in Croke Park and I'm also supposed to be getting it free but I'm having severe doubts about installing it. It may be the 'latest OS of the future' but then they also said that about ME (nicknamed in the trade very fast as Multiple Errors) and most people rolled back to 98SE after that

not me, I had it in my previous job (I was the guinnea pig) and I had to stick with it until XP was released!
