I've made a movie to burn to a DVD, but it has it set to a Sony CD-RW. I thought you would be able to burn to any CD-R or CD-RW disk????

Can you change the default or am I going to have to go buy a Sony disk? unsure.gif

What drive do you have and is that the only one?

Do you have DVD burner or just a CD burner? Not sure if you'd be able to fit a DVD movie on a cd either.

Can you tell your drive identifier - to get the ID string, right-click on the "my computer" icon, go to "properties" at the bottom of the menu, the hardware tab, then Device Manager, then click on the + alongside the CDROM icon.

Also, which Version of the program do you have, and which Operating System.

And, I assume you know that if you have a combo drive (burns CDs, reads CDs and DVDs), buying DVD burning software for it doesn't add the additional hardware needed to BURN DVDs.

I have both the D:\ drive and E:\ drive which is the CD burner.

This wasn't going to be a full blown DVD, I was just taking digital pictures and putting it into a DVD format.
gi7omy
You can't use DVD format for a CD - you MAY be able to make a VCD (Video CD) but the quality won't be good.

Check the help or the manual for VCD

To create a DVD you need a DVD burner. With a only a CD burner available, you can only create a VCD or a SVCD. Please give the make/model of your burners, D: and E: do not tell us what kind of burner you have.

How do you change the CD's listed there? Do you have to have a Default CD under this section???

How do I figure out what make/model the burners are?

Saving photos on cd's are one thing but viewing them as a slide show as a VCD is not very pleasing to most people. If you don't have a dvd burner, then VCD is about it with EMC.

I think what you're seeing is the brand name of the CD burner. Does it look like this.... E:[Sony CD.....].?

If that's the case, then you can use any CD in that burner.

It looks like this E:\SONY CD-RW CRX217E 1DS1

but what I don't understand is it says there is not disk in the drive????? unsure.gif

That's a Sony CD burner.

Did the burner come preinstalled on your computer? If it did, visit the computer manufactuer's site to see if there are any updates/firmware for your burner. If you installed it later, visit the Sony Support website. I think Sony also has diagnostic software on their website to see if there is a problem with the drive.

It's also possible that you might need a different 'brand' of CD. Occasionally one of the CDs in a spindle will be bad. What brand of CD are you using?

I never installed the burner after so that is what came with the computer. I'm currently trying to use an HP dvd-RW CD, but when I click the burn button it says the tray is empty?????
gi7omy
You may have to update the drive firmware. If you are using a Dell, go here, download and run the file (follow the instructions carefully)

I think the problem here is that you are confusing a DVD disc as being a CD disc. They are NOT the same thing.

Discs that can be burned to (with the correct type of drive)
CD-R
CD-RW

DVD-R
DVD-RW
DVD+R
DVD+RW

You have a drive that will burn CD discs only, so you can only use CD-R or CD-RW discs.
In order to use any of the DVD type discs you would nedd a new drive that is capable of burning to those types.
ml
As Larry says, you cannot burn a DVD on a drive that will burn CDs only. That's why you're getting the 'please insert disk' message. The CD drive won't 'see' the disk and it doesn't have the internal hardware to ever recognize or write to a DVD.

You can change the type of project you are burning in DVD Builder by going to File\ Change project type and making a VCD, SVCD or DVD on CD. Check the explanations for each type and find the one that fits your needs.

I'd also suggest that you burn those original photos to a DATA CD using Creator Classic. The pictures burned in DVD Builder will NOT be the original quality. The quality will probably be less and you want to preserve the original quality.

In MyDVD, you click on File, then on New Project, then on SVCD or VCD. SVCD will give you better quality.

Then bring in your .dmsm file from VideoWave.

I am am currently trying to switch the project type from DVD to VCD and I was told to:

Change the type of project you are burning in DVD Builder by going to File\ Change project type and making a VCD, SVCD or DVD on CD, but when I got into

FILE\PROJECT SETTINGS I don't get an option to switch the type of project it is.

What do I do???? blink.gif

Go back into the program. Click on Help (up at the top), then click at the bottom of the menu where it says About, and it should tell you which Version you have.

Then let us know which Version - some menus are organized a bit differetly than others. wink.gif

If you're using DVD Builder, it's NOT underneath the Project Settings. It's File\ CHANGE PROJECT TYPE.

If you're not using DVD Builder, please give us the version as Lynn requested.

No point in starting a new thread. It only makes things more confusing than they are already. They are all merged, now.

I told you that it is under File/New Project in MyDVD. Did you not understand that? Do you really have EMC 9? You have us all confused.

OK, I have Easy Media Creator Suite 9. What I want to ask you now is, I just purchased a Dell laptop and it has a CD rewritable, DVD+RW drive so it should work for my project, "right". I just installed the program onto the laptop, but my project is saved on my external harddrive which I have to try and connect tomorrow.

All these different options you have to have and can have are confusing. This programming is confusing.

huh.gif

So, with the DVD+RW drive on my laptop I should be able to burn it to "any" DVD disk shouldn't I. I hope it doesn't ask for a specific brand type.

More confusion unsure.gif Does the burner have only CD RW and DVD +RW capabiity? Most are burners that burn both plus and dash R or RW discs. I can't type the plus-dash sign but is that what you are seeing?
Buy good discs; not the inexpensive store brands. Read this discussion.

Steve, to type the plus-dash sign (±), press Alt+0177. It works for me smile.gif
