I have installed EMC 7. My HP computer came bundled with WinDVD 5 and I would like to remove it. Is it safe to do this?
E.g., will I lose DVD decoders or other DVD functions?
Thank you.

If you don't plan to use it again, there is no reason you can't uninstall it.

I agree. Just make certain that if you get the message that "..... may be used by another program...do you want to uninstall it?"........ Answer No.

I'm curious why you want to remove it from your computer. Have you found another program that will replace it ? If so, which one ?

Don't know about the OP Frank. I got a WinDVD disc with a motherboard never did use it. I prefer CyberLink PowerDVD 7!

Whip out the WinDVD5 disc and install the program cd. try it and see what you think. I have about three copies of it that came with hardware also. I also have Power DVD, and Roxio's CinePlayer. They all are O.K. and are all compatible being installed on my computer.

Yes I did, with no ill effects.
The whole WinDVD interface seemed odd and clumsy to me. I couldn't find a frame capture in it.
The cineplayer caused codec issues, I don't use it.

I'll throw in my support for PowerDVD. I've tried WinDVD in the past and it always caused problems with my codecs so I off it came. Actually, I find myself using VLC Media Player and Media Player Classic more. They're both faster and cleaner than PowerDVD. However, PDVD does have assume sound.

Did I say 'assume' sound? LOL, of course I meant 'awesome' sound.
