I have just started using Easy Media Creator 9 on a new Dell XPS system running Windows Vista Home Premium and I am having an issue capturing video from my Sony digital video camera.

I am able to import an entire 1 hour mini-DV tape using the media import tool, but when the tape ends the media import tool freezes and I am forced to close all Roxio applications that are currently open. The video is successfully captured to the hard drive but before I can open it with any Roxio application I have to restart the PC.

Any thoughts?

I have a Sony laptop running Windows XP MCE, and I have the same problem capturing from a Sharp DV camera. I can start the capture, and successfully capture a 1 hour tape, but the Media Import program crashes (freezes) at the end of the tape, and I have to use Task Manager to quit, and usually actually reboot the computer (I assume theres a phantom process still running). Anyone have any clues about this?

I have the exact same problem described in the first post. At any time that I end the capture process the program locks up and I have to reset the PC to be able to work with the captured video. I am using a self-built PC Intel core duo 6600 with 2 gigs of PC8500 ram and Nvidia 8800 gtx video card with windows Vista Home premium and a Sony camcorder and firewire capture. The software Roxio sold me says VISTA COMPATABLE right on the front of the box (I would not have bought it had it not), so they have 30 days to get a patch out for this extremely annoying issue before I return this product to Costco.

I'm not sure if Vista Home Premium has this capability, but in Vista Ultimate, there is a "Windows Media Import". As a workaround (until a patch/upgrade is available from Roxio), you could import your video using "Windows Media Import" rather than Roxio's "Media Import", then use Videowave to do the rest.

I have a Sony HDR-HC1E HDV camera and "Windows Media Import" works fine. Once imported, I can open the imported AVI file in Videowave. Windows Media Import works for me on Ultimate x86 and Ultimate x64 (though I can only use Videowave under Ultimate x86 at the moment ).

I agree that Roxio needs to address this issue, but at least this workaround will save you some program freezes and reboots!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I also have been able to get around the video import problem by using the "Windows Media Import" tool. It has worked very well for me.

One thing I thought about trying was to run the Roxio Media Import application in Windows XP compatability mode. I will try it and let you know how it works.

I used EMC9 with XP and I had no problem capturing. Using my new machine with Windows Vista Ultimate, I find that the capture program window freezes when I stop capturing. Fortunately, if I bring up the Task Manager and force quit the program, I find that the file I captured can be found on my hard disk and plays back well. Given all the other posts, I feel confident that this is an EMC9-Vista incompatability issue (not Hardware specific) and hope that Roxio pays attention and addresses this issue formally.

Until I hear from Roxio, I think I will use the Windows Media Capture workaround that others have suggested (because quitting programs with Task Manager is just asking for problems and I feel I have to reboot each time to be confident).

By the way, my system is a brand new Dell Optiplex 745 preloaded with Vista Ultimate.

Ditto to all of the above. Attempting to import using EMC9 on vista crashes with error about priviledged function. Maybe that will help the guys at Roxio. I switched to Vista because I was having problems importing on my XP machine. Looks like it hasn't been fixed. BTW, this is a new PC with Vista Ultimate pre-installed.

Are these EMC9 come preinstalled on your systems?

When I took my new Dell Optiplex 745 with Vista Ultimate out of the box, one of the first things I did was uninstall Roxio Creator 9.0 DE that was pre-installed. I also ran the patch for the Sonic DLA which was misbehaving on Dell systems (this was, it turned out, a known issue. Bizarre that Dell would ship something that wasn't working even in the factory). I then installed EMC9, which I had previously used on my XP machine (also a Dell but an older model).
