I am unable to run EMC Ver 9.0 with Vista Business. The program installed and loads but when I try and run it I always get an error box that states:
"The following codec(s) must be activated before using the application. MPEG2. Click on OK to activate."
Then when I click on OK I get another error message:
"Error. No permission - Bad Installation" OK

From there I am unable to use the program.

I am logged into the computer under a user that is local Administrator as well as Domain Administrator. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the EMC 9 to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you follow the instructions for a clean install found here?

The original install which began exhibiting the error was done with no prior installation of any Roxio products. However, I'll give the "clean install" a try. At the very least it looks like a complete uninstall if the problem doesn't get resolved.

This forum has been very helpful in trying to solve the "no permission - bad installation" problem. It has worked for some, but not all. I have clean installed numerous times with no successful result. I am waiting for a fix as even the live help (phone) has no solution.

While I haven't had this problem with Vista, I have with XP and it took me 3 times of doing what I'd swear was the exact same thing each time before it worked. Guess it involves some voodoo. cool.gif
Roxio on Vista
I have the same problem on a Vista station after installing Roxio over the Roxio DE version. I did the clean uninstall as suggested but still get the same "annoying" problem. I will try it again as some of you have pointed out that it may take two or three tries.

Roxio's been good to me under XP pro. Hope it won't let me down under Vista!

Okay, I was finally able to get it to activate the codecs. Since I have a Dell Dimension which came preinstalled with Roxio DE, I decided to go back to the factory image restore, and uninstall the DE version of Roxio. Then I installed EMC9 without any problems and burned a couple of DVDs, and everything is fine! Doing the clean uninstall just never cleaned up the problem with activating the MPEG codec, but I'm glad that going back to factory restore, and deleting Dell's roxio did the trick.

Although there is no simple fix that I have come across, I finally got mine to work - -

I'm having the same problem. On the first installation of EMC9 it removed all of the basic Roxio components that came with my new computer but probably didn't take out everything. Where did you find "factory image restore"? I'd try that if I knew how. Probably have to reinstall my other programs but EMC9 is worth that little hassle if it works.

I too am having problems with EMC9, at the moment specifically the "activate codecs" problem that has been mentioned several places on this forum. I tried a clean install but at the point in the process where I'm supposed to delete the roxio folders from my hard drive I got a message that I was "not permitted to do this" and was unable to complete the clean install. I'm the only user of this computer and as far as I can determine I'm the Administrator. Where would I check to be certain of that, or to change it so that I'm the administrator if necessary?

There is a patch due very shortly (or so we believe) - that may help, but not having seen it yet, I can't be certain

btw - never ever post an e-mail address in any public forum - these get trawled by google and verious spider-bots and e-mails get harvested so you can end up on a spammer's list

I have read all of the items on this forum pertaining to this same issue.

I have an Inspiron 1505 with Vista Home Premium and it came with EMC 9DE preinstalled. I bought the EMC Deluxe from the website and proceeded to do an install over top of the one that was already there.

No love. Same activation error everyone else is getting. I tried the clean install method, cleaned the registry and tried it again. I'm currently on my fourth uninstall/clean/reinstall trying to get this thing to work.

Tonight I'm going to just wipe the thing back to the factory image, uninstall the preloaded version, then clean the OS and try another install. If it works I'll post back here and let everyone know if it worked.

Wish me luck because if this doesn't work I'll just wish I had wiped my butt on the money I wasted on until some sort of patch (if ever) gets released.

Hopefully, it works for you. Make sure nothing is running in the background when you install it again.
