I am using the trial copy of EMC9 to see if it will work in Vista with my video capture card before I buy the upgrade (I currently have My DVD 5.x). My problem is that I'm getting a black screen when I go into the capture section of the program, and when I click the "capture now" button, I get (after a long pause) a message: unknown error.

Now, the capture card works perfectly with the program VLC, and EMC9 does see it in the pull-down, but I get neither picture nor sound in EMC9.

Is there a Vista or EMC9 setting I can use to get this working?

According to Adaptec, they have no intentions of ever releasing a Vista driver for this card, so driver-wise, what I've got is it. I find it strange that the Open Source VLC can use the card in Vista just fine, but EMC9 cannot.

Can anybody help?

EMC depends on the card drivers to do the capture - if they aren't available for Vista, then it just won't work I'm afraid.

Hiowever, as you say you can capture it with an external program so what you could do is to use that to get it to the hard drive and then use EMC9 to work on it from there
