Full Version: Capture Video Locks Computer UP
Roxio Community > Easy Media Creator Products > Legacy Creator Products > Easy Media Creator 9 > AV Capture/Output

Using the composite video input, the movie streams fine from the DV Cam Recorder. When I hit the capture button, the software locks the computer up.

Cannot end the program using Task Manager. Have to reboot the machine manually.

Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and/or how to correct the problem.

Please advise.

Thanks

Hmmmm. If you are trying to capture from your DV camcorder, if it is a mini DV tape model, you should be capturing via firewire, if you camera and computer have the firewire output/input ports.

Are you trying to capture through a capture card?

I got the same problem as yours, dgwhit, when I tried to load a VHS tape thru Dazzle DVC90. Both EMC9 and Windows Movie Maker froze out my Alienware Aurora FX- 55 desktop.

Roxio (or anybody), please help!

Thanks,

MM

Vista or XP? IE 7 and/or WMP 11? Did you download the drivers for the DVC 90? Sometimes they don't install properly and you have to go to the Pinnacle site and download the latest drivers. (second one down). The DVC 90 must be connected when you install the drivers.

You must have the VHS player on and paused before you try to capture. If you don't you may get a no signal error message or the program will freeze.

Are you getting any error messages? Where, when and what?

skinis, thanks for your response. I have XP, IE7 and WMP11.
I followed your intructions, but my computer still locked up.
I will redo it from step 1, then will let you know if it works.

thanks again

The first thing to do is to roll IE 7 back to IE 6 and WMP 11 back to WMP 10. Both these totally break V8 and more than a few people have indicated that they do the same with V9. After you roll them back, do a Windows Add/Remove Programs Repair on V9. Again some people have no problems but other do.

After I rolled IE and WMP back, repaired V9, I got capture both sound & video (ha...ha..) BUT for only 20 seconds then the Media Import froze again.

I had to restart my computer and tried a few more times with no luck.
Do you think I should uninstall DVC9 driver before I roll the others back, and before repair V9?

I am having the same exact problem importing video from my Angel II TV Tuner. The progam freezes when I stop recording. I am forced to shut it down from the Task mangers, and as someone else said this creates more problems which require a reboot. I have tried repairs, clean installs you name it. I am running Vista 32 Home Priemium, on a Dell XPS 600 Intel Pentium D dual processors at 3G, 2G of Main memory, Dual Nvidia 7900GS SLI Mode.

I upgraded to Roxio Deluxe 9 thinking some of the many other problems, like MY DVD suddenly crashing with no explaination. The DAZZLE DVC90 which was supposed to be bonus hardware, does not record sound Media Creator freezes when I STOP recording with the DVC90 same as with the TV Tuner.

The upgrade did not include SOUND SOAP which was also supposed to be a "BONUS" program.

I feel kind of stupid to keep investing in Roxio software that only seems to get worse with each upgrade. The only support seems to be these forums. I have posted many "TICKETS" with Roxio, but never get any feedback. I am not about to pay for phone support, since this would be more money down the hole. If Roxio is like most other phone support systems, I would be talking to a someone in India who would read in poor english a script telling me to "Reboot Windows".

Pinnacle does not have Vista drivers for the Dazzle at the moment. Keep checking their site for updates.

Sound Soap is included and is installed. Look for BIAS under All Programs.

Roxio's support is not outsourced, so if you can understand Canadian, you should have no trouble.

Thanks for the reply. I searched my entire drive, nothing about BIAS or Sound Soap. I do have a ticket in with Roxio (Who was very good about letting me know that there are others with this same anomaly.) about this problem.

It is good to know that Roxio does not outsource, they are in the minority. I don't think I should have to pay $35.00 for a chance that problems will be resolved. I will keep checking for driver updates. This is very frustrating that Vista has been out this long and drivers are still not ready.

Thanks Again.

Keep checking back, there are some Sound Soap users here that may be able to supply some more accurate advice! – I don't have Deluxe installed anymore so I am working from (faulty?) memory.

As to your Angle card – check their site for updated drivers and any info about others having similar problems.

I hate to pay too, but consider how much Tech Support costs? Some other software I use have an option. You can pay $1,000 for an open call or be billed at $50 per minute. And if you have to reinstall, you will spend $150 for a new activation key! The good old days have been gone for some time…
