Just got new HP laptop running XP & bought Roxio EMC 9 to do backups & other stuff. Unfortunately the install appears to hangs. It comes up with an empty window with an invalid (unloaded?) logo icon, a few bullet marks, no text, no other controls.

Any idea what might be happening?

BTW -- I'm unable to use their website, too. Several places it hangs or goes non-responsive. I tend to agree with the last rant about Roxio but I'm not quite that frustrated --- yet.

Shut down all programs running in the background, including ZoneAlarm, if you have it, and all Internet security programs that you may have running.

Also, where did you get the software?

My purchasing agent purchased directly from Roxio. I've been installing on a new computer and so far it doesn't have any anti-malware installed but I was going to install AVG next. However, I am running through a corporate firewall and shutting that down is not gonna happen. If that's the problem, is there any way around it?

Thanks,
Max

AVG (if you do a search on the board here) is problematic so that's just a word of advice is all

However, your firewall shouldn't stop the program installing as it doesn't try to go online until the registration/activation phase which doesn't occur until after the program is installed and you have rebooted.

Shut down any running apps on the computer itself - check your permissions (that you are admin, etc, etc) and try again

I have no clue how you are networked, but I would suspect that your install problems may be related to the corporate network.

Dear GrandpaBruce and others,
Thanks for your advice.
First, I don't have AVG installed now and I still have a problem.
Second, The program is hanging during registration as I said before. It installs but won't run.
Third, It was the only app running. Of course, being Windows, a lot of other stuff was running in the background.
Forth, the error should have been trapped and a sensible message delivered.
Fifth, this program must be able to run from within a firewall.

I suppose I could try to install it without any network connection and see what happens, but I've wasted enough time. I'm going to have this returned for a credit and instruct our purchasing department not to order it for anyone else.

Too bad,
Max
