I getting rid of an old computer. I copied my drives to DVD's using Creator Classic. It says I'll need to use Roxio Retreive to open the files. Can I install my old version of emc 7 on my new computer and copy the files from the DVD's onto my new computer?

Don't throw away that old computer til you make certain you can open the files on the new computer.

Did you use Disc Spanning to write the files to the DVDs?

Does your new computer have Windows Vista? EMC 7 probably won't work on it. If it's a WinXP computer, then you can install EMC 7.

You might have to burn the information to new DVDs with Creator Classic again. Only this time, don't use Disk Spanning.

I used "Backup Project" and it required 3 DVD's but I don't know if I used Disc Spanning or not. I wasn't prompted to use it, unless it is a default setting. How can I tell if I used Disc Spanning?

Thanks!

You should not need to install the Roxio Suite to retrieve the files. The Retreive.exe is included on the DVD set you made and should autostart. If not use Explorer to browse the first DVD of the set and launch Retreive.exe from there.

It usually works as advertised so it should be a non-issue.

If not, then as ML suggested, don't be too quick to dispose of your old PC as there are other methods to get those files.

If you used the backup over three discs - you spanned them

It worked! I burned the DVD's using my old pc, then isntalled EMC on my new pc, then retrieved the files to my new pc.
