Full Version: Updating the DivX codecs?

Hi All,

The version of the DivX codecs that is embedded in Popcorn 2.0.1 (and Toast 8 actually) is somewhat outdated.
These codecs have several bugs and missing feature but what affects me the most is the poor performances.
The latest version of the DivX codecs is a LOT faster to transcode files on my Mac. The DivX 6.4 codecs are now properly multi-threaded and for a 2xCore 2 Duo Mac it makes a huge difference.

Is there any way to manually update the codecs in the app???
It seems silly that every time the DivX folks come up with a new version of their codecs, we have to wait (sometimes a very long time) to get an update that matches it.

(in a perfect world, Popcorn and Toast would be able to use the most recent version of the codecs installed on the Mac.....)

Any suggestion???

Toast 8.0.1 actually has the newest version of the codecs.

You are absolutely right!!! (and that's great). I don't use Toast to transcode DIvX very often and I had missed this detail. Thanks for pointing this out.
Now if only it could be the case for Popcorn 2..... glare.gif

(I wonder if I could take the newer components from Toast and install them in Popcorn.....)

You could try taking the one out of Toast and replacing it in Popcorn. I'm not sure if it will work 100% correctly though.

I know taking the regular components (from DivX.com) and renaming them to match before placing them in the app doesn't work.
I haven't tried this way though. I suspect there is a little more behind it than just updating these components. The app might be piping commands expecting one version and wouldn't behave well if it's another one that's inside.

I'll give it a try though (and maybe that'll correct the cropping black bars issue as well).

Well it didn't work.... The app loads the proper DivX encoder (that displays version 6.4) but I can't do much. The app goes in spinning beachball almost immediately when I try one thing or another.
