I recently purchased the Blackberry 8830 and installed the desktop manager and VZAccess Manager on a Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 2 computer. I also installed Audio Bay Media manager in an attempt to access podcasts on the Blackberry. Every since installing these programs I continue to get an error message "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio Media Manager" or "Unable to find Certificate File," or "Please install CD to continue Roxio Media Manager installation." The problem is that I don't ever recall downloading anything from Roxio Media Manager and am not sure where it came from. I've removed Audio Bay, Blackberry Desktop Manager and VZAccess Manager and now am having trouble reinstalling them.

It would be great if I could get some advice on getting rid of the constant message from Roxio. Any tips would be wonderful!!!

I have a similar problem, but I have EMC8 along with the desktop manager for my Blackberry 8830. I also have PaperPort 10 for scanning. Everything worked fine for a couple of months until recently - must have gotten a software update or something - and the whole thing went haywire. The Media Manager went nuts, restarting my system every 30 seconds until I deleted it from the start menu. Now I can't use PaperPort without the Media Manager opening up and insisting that the system needs to be restarted. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problems as described above however when I tried the suggested fix by downloading and running http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 it did not work for me. It says another update is ion prgress but no applications are running on my computer. Can someone help??

I was having the same problems with the Media manager and this is how I resolved it:

If you open your task manager, you will notice that msiexec.exe is using all of your processor, any time this is, you will have to end task on this item in order to get anywhere with this procedure (it's tedious, but it works):

1. Right click on "my computer" and choose "manage"
2. In the new window(in the right window pane), double click on "services and applications"
3. double click on "services" in the right window pane
4. scroll down to "Windows Installer", right click and choose "properties"
5. where it says "manual", set it to "disabled" then apply, next time you "end task" on the faulty program, it will not restart
6. now comes the real trick where timing is necessary, you will need to set the service to "manual", then go to your add/remove programs and remove roxio altogether.

Windows installer will ask you if you want to restart at this stage, you can say no, and shut off the installer service again, because you probably have a blackberry (blackberry desktop software), so you need to uninstall that too.

Then you can reinstall Roxio (I like this software because it can do something similar to disc spanning, where if I dump a folder that exceeds the discs capacity, Roxio software knows that and it tells me that it will take multiple discs, and it prompts for each disc as they're burnt...Nero can't do that just yet).

Remember to remove the upper and lower filters that it applies to your registry on your cd burner drive (windows knowledge base article).

Lancelot: We get quite a few questions about how to recover data from failed Spanned Disc sets… Usually there is no solution and the data is lost!

We have never seen a single post about recovering data from a Data CD or DVD created without spanning!

You can choose to fly in the face of experience or perhaps review the meaning of 'convenience' and 'reliability'.

Good to know, thank you. I wish there was an option within the Roxio burner software where I could just dump a huge folder onto it, and it would just fill each disc as well as it could, and do this without spanning.

Try This.....
Follow the instructions below to use the Microsoft Cleanup Utility to remove software




Download Microsoft windows installer clean up utility



a. Enter the following address into the Address Bar of your web browser:

b. Scroll down to and click on "Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now"



c. Click on Save and select to save to your Desktop Install and use the Installer Cleanup Utility to remove Easy Media Creator



a. On your Desktop, double-click on msicuu2.exe file and follow the on-screen instructions to install



b. Click on start, then All programs, and finally Windows Install Cleanup



c. Select Roxio Easy Media Creator and Roxio Burn Engine (if listed)



d. Click on Remove







Once that is completed please disable your startup applications using MSCONFIG.



How to disable all startup apps using MSCONFIG



Disabling startup and system tray items



a. Click on the "Start" button, then click select "Run"



b. Type "msconfig" and then click the "OK" button



c. Select the "Startup" tab by left clicking on it



d. Click the "Disable All" button



e. Click the "Apply" button, then click the "OK" button



f. Click the "Restart" button




To reverse this just go back in and click "enable all" and restart



(that can be done once installation is complete)




2.) For the step below you will need to show hidden files.



This can be done by clicking on my computer, go up and click on tools, then folder options. then view. Make sure show hidden folders is checked and click apply.




When you try the step below you may receive a message that a file is in use.



Simply drag that file to your desktop and it can be removed after resarting the computer.



(please note that the username referred to below is the name you use when logged into Windows XP)



2. Delete these folders from your hard drive



C:\Program Files\Roxio



C:\Program Files\Sonic



C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared



C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic Shared



C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Roxio



C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Sonic



under Vista,control panel folder options,show hidden files
C:\Program Files\Roxio
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared
C:\Users\Username\App Data\Local\Roxio
C:\Users\Username\App Data\Roaming\Roxio



Once completed empty the recycle bin.



3. Remove these keys from the registry:

To export a copy of your registry, please do the following.



a.Go to "Start" then "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".



b.Locate and left click "File" in the upper left hand corner of the Registry editor.



c.Click "Export" (Export range All should be selected).



d.Choose a location on your hard drive and give the file a name.



e.Click "Save".Your registry should now be backed up in a .reg file to the location you specified.



Note: if you are not familiar with editing the Registry then you may want to have someone do it for you.



Registry Edit instructions:



Select the "Start" menu-->Select "Run"--->Type: regedit. Click "OK".



Double-click the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder" this will expand or open the folder.



b.Locate the "Software" folder



c.Locate the "Roxio" folder



d.Right click on Roxio and click delete.



(do the same for Sonic)



Double-click the "Hkey_Local_Machine folder" this will expand or open the folder.

d.Right click on Roxio and click delete.

The original poster has not been back on here for over 5 months.

My problem is when I try to do what is suggested it says "error 1500, another isntallation in process. finish then run the program again!" so how do you stop this annying installation?

the Roxio installation starts by itself withothot any prompt from user.

I am also having problems with Roxio software.
I recently purchased a Blackberry Curve 8310 and after installing the Desktop Software am unable to get the Media Manager to work. I keep getting the "Media Manager 9 Module has stopped working"
After contacting Blackberry I have tried the lasted version of Desktop Software with the same result. The Blackberry rep suggested that I try contacting Roxio so here I am wondering if anyone has come up with a solution.
I am using Vista Business with Nero Ultra 8 as the main burning software.

Blackberry are definitely buck pasing here - they are solely responsible for their apparatus and how it works as well as the software. It's not (as you probably guessed) a standard piece of EMC but a mocified one producved purely for blackberry

I was having the same problems with the Media Manager associated to the Blackberry 8830 Roxio software provided with my unit. I resolved it by completing a hybrid of the aforementioned posts. Try this:

1. Right click on "my computer" and choose "manage"
2. In the new window (in the right window pane), double click on "services and applications"
3. double click on "services" in the right window pane
4. scroll down to "Windows Installer", right click and choose "properties"
5. where it says "manual", set it to "disabled"

Keep this window open for now as you are going to set it back to manual in a moment.

Go to the below Microsoft web site and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Save it on your desktop, install it and run the application. The "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" will only run if you have completed steps 1-5 above, otherwise it will say that you are trying to install too many things at once (because Roxio Media Manager is in a perpetual installation loop).

With steps 1-5 complete, select "Roxio Media Manager" for removal using the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility".

Afterwards, go back to your open window and reverse step 5 above (set it back to "manual" and apply it).

This should fix the issue.

It has been my best progress but still having problems

What I did.
1) Disabled Windows Installer
- This stopped msiexec.exe
2) I removed all ROXIO programs (had about 5)
3) I removed Blackberry Application
4) I rebooted
I AM STILL GETTING THE "Please wait while Windows Configures Roxio Media Manger..."
Also, the msiexec.exe file seems to occasionally start even after disabling.

But I have to keep repeating LANCELOT's items 1-6. The program is still there somewhere trying to load.

This is driving me crazy because I have a new Blackberry which I can not SYNC until this is done and its been over a week I have been struggling with this...

Am I missing a step?
Am I not removing the program properly?
Is it the timing of setting the Windows Installer to 'Disabled'?

ON A POSITIVE NOTE, I have tried everything in every forum, this is the first thing that really seemed to take me a step forward!

Do you have either Internet Explorer 7 and/or Media Player 11 installed? If so, remove them as they will wreck EMC8.

I don't know why you disabled msiexec - msi = MicroSoft Installer and with that disabled I don't see who you can get anything in

I have a Blackberry 8130. The Desktop Manager included Roxio Media Manager. I thought RMM was bulky and slow
when it first installed. Rather than try to uninstall it, I chose to ignore it and used drag and drop with a card reader to
swap files on my memory card. Then one unfine day, Roxio Media Manager began to try to install upon start up. And,
despite repeated efforts, it would not stop. GRRRR.

I found I could stop it by waiting upon startup for the rest of my programs to load then:

Step One
Open Task Manager.
In Applications, right click on the RMM install process
Left click on Go TO PROCESS
This step puts you on ISUSPM.exe.
Left click on END PROCESS

This only works until your next start. In the meantime, you will not be able to install anything else as RMM install is running in the background. GRRRR.

Step Two
Go back to Task Manager, select PROCESSES
Find msiexec.exe
Left click on it and left click on END PROCESS

Step Three
Uninstall Blackberry Destop Manager and Roxio Media Manager

Step Four
Download and run Windows Install Clean Up utility from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.
If it it errors out because another install program is running, repeat Step Two

Step Five
Remove all instances of Roxio programs (I have about four or five) If you are using Roxio for other things (after this I
can't imagine why), you can try to be selective. My strong advice would be to find alternative programs.

Step Six
Download and install Blackberry Desktop Manager without Roxio Media Manager. Get yourself a card reader and you can easily drag and drop from your hard drive to your media card.
