Hello, when I insert a portable disk, I receive the autoplay dialog

eg.
"This disk or device contains more than one type of content.

What would you like windows to do.

...
[icon] play using ...
[icon] copy using..
[no icon] transfer music using media import 8
[no icon] transfer pictures using media import 8
...

"

I want to remove the media import 8 entries. I have already uninstalled Easy Media Creator 8, I'm currently using version 9. Either way, I don't want those two entries to appear when I insert a portable drive.

How do I remove them?
I'm using Windows XP Pro
Thanks,
Dan

I don't know that you can. This is a function of Windows Autoplay and would need to be fixed there.

is there a clean wipe only for EMC8? Would you know how I could repair the windows autoplay?

find out which files are calling EMC8 and right click on them. Use 'Open with' and select the program you want to use for that - that will reset the Windows file associations

I don't have a problem with the windows file associations. It's the autoplay pop up dialog with the insertion of removable media

That's because Windows is associating those files with EMC8 - so it IS a file association problem.

Not to argue Daithi but how can it be a file association if it's a blank disc, there is no file?
I think it's probably a case of autoplay handlers in the registry. What keys in the registry I have no clue. But something in there probably says "when this type media is inserted, these are your choices".
Now,if it's not a blank disc and has 2 different types of files on it (maybe audio or video) then yeah file associations could come into play and you'd have to make a choice of which app you were going to use.In that case you could go to My Computer, right click on the drive,go to properties, the autoplay tab and change the associations for different categories of files. You just can't delete choices from here

Fropm the original post Tery it sounds as if something IS on the drive

"..."This disk or device contains more than one type of content.

To me that sounds like Windows file association - doze is seeing something there that it thinks needs EMC to open

Sorry,I was editing as you were posting.I see what you're saying though.I'm wondering if you couldn't just go to My Computer and tell the autoplay tab what program to use every time.
I think of file associations as being used on files and Autoplay handlers as being used on disc types.Maybe I'm messed up in my thinking.

It would be the same thing really - go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types but you still need to know just what extensions Windows is associating with EMC and then reset them to open with whatever program is appropriate
