I am a new user. I imported several .avi files into the movie making process. These files had sound with them. In fact in a EMC preview window, the sound could be played. However upon loading these files into my movie timeline editor, all sound is lost.

Any thoughts?

Movie maker wants separate picture and sound just like Hollywood makes movies.

I use Divx Author to make Divx file which will burn DVD or VCD.

Then you can rip the DVD or pick off the mpeg off the VCD

I gave up on movie maker.

I'm looking for good wmv file originator or converter due to YouTube having size and
time restrictions and converting a VCD mpg to wmv results in poor quality.

See for yourself:

I have never tried DVD ripping by on my XP, Microsoft came up with yet another
video file dvr-ms and bet thats what I get.

Although MyDVD and EC9 might have a good ripper and divx might be acceptable to YouTube.

Try those work arounds if you can, hope you get a reply on how to use Movie Maker.

What EMC program are you using? Where did the avi files come from? What EMC preview window are you referring to? What movie timeline editor are you talking about? You have to give some information if you want anyone to help you.

If you are talking about Windows Movie Maker then you are wrong: WMM accepts video files such as avi, wmv, etc that have the video and sound in one file.

Converting a VCD mpg to wmv will give poor results since you are already starting with low quality video.
BTW, bigsky never stated that he was using WMM.
