ok, here's what I did:

1. Open Video Wave 9 then click on Tools then Options. You may receive errors similar to what you are getting but just clear them out of the way.
2. Make a note of the full path listed under Proxy files:.
3. Close down Roxio EMC 9 completely then browse to the directory noted in Step 2 above.
4. Delete everything in the Proxy folder but not the folder itself.
5. Open Video Wave 9 again, then click on Tools then Options. There should be no errors. Click on Hardware for Render using: then test it. Click OK.
6. If all goes well which it did for me you should now be able to edit, trim and split video files without a problem. Please let me know how you got on.
This didn’t work.
I then went to the Dell site and updated my RADEON X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory Secondary driver and installed the driver r118968.
This didn't work either.[i]
I then did the last post suggestions:

Try switching to software and see if that helps
DirectX is available here (it's not a MS 'update' per se - you have to download it and install it yourself
This worked!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all.I have one other question. Since I changed render to software, when I bring up ANY production, on the menu screen of any production, the titles look a little choppy. Will this be on the final DVD I burn also??
