After using EMC 9 for a few months today I tried opening a production I've been working on for a few weeks in Videowave or MyDvd and got the error message below.
I then tried opening alot of old productions that I have made a dvd wth thru MyDvd and the same error message (below) came up.

It gets to the screen where the production starts opening either thru Videowave or MyDvd but then the error message "could not create the renderer object. This may be caused by Diectx 9.0 not being installed or the display adapter not fully supporting Directx 9.0"[u]

I tried re-booting & complete shut down then on and stll get this error message which prevents me from doing ANYTHING to my productions...HELP!!

Did you update anything lately? Check to see what your render is set to under Tools/Options. Also, please post your hardware specs.

NO, no new programs or window updates or anything like that recently.

Did what you said and went to tools/options but did't see ANYTHING that said RENDER.

Also - did you update DirectX 9.0c to the latest from Microsoft?

As far as I know my Directx hasn't been manually updated from Microsoft but don't know if it wil update thru automatic updates as I have my Windows Update set at. How can I check??

My render under my DVD9/tools/options is set at hardware

Try switching to software and see if that helps

DirectX is available here (it's not a MS 'update' per se - you have to download it and install it yourself

ok, here's what I did:

POST ON May 21 2007, 02:57 AM

1. Open Video Wave 9 then click on Tools then Options. You may receive errors similar to what you are getting but just clear them out of the way.

2. Make a note of the full path listed under Proxy files:.

3. Close down Roxio EMC 9 completely then browse to the directory noted in Step 2 above.

4. Delete everything in the Proxy folder but not the folder itself.

5. Open Video Wave 9 again, then click on Tools then Options. There should be no errors. Click on Hardware for Render using: then test it. Click OK.

6. If all goes well which it did for me you should now be able to edit, trim and split video files without a problem. Please let me know how you got on.

This didn’t work.

I then went to the Dell site and updated my RADEON X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory Secondary driver and installed the driver r118968.

This didn't work either.[i]

This worked!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all.

I have one other question. Since I changed render to software, when I bring up ANY production, on the menu screen of any production, the titles look a little choppy. Will this be on the final DVD I burn also??

The render setting should not affect the 'preview' window. It is intentionally 'low resolution' so the preview can be in real time. Otherwise everything would have to be completely rendered before just previewing and most computers just aren't fast enough for that.

So you can ignore the 'quality' of the preview. The final disc will be much better.

Whew! Thought it had an affect on preview & final dvd.

Only ponderable is that I've produced about 12 productions since I bought/installed emc9 appx. 3 months ago thru slide show, videowave & MyDvd and this started happening 2 days ago. No new programs/no updated, etc.??????????

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop (specs below) and I just got past the "could not create the renderer object. This may be caused by Diectx 9.0 not being installed or the display adapter not fully supporting Directx 9.0" issue.

I used the internal sound card (Sigma Tel Audio) for sound playback (control panel -> Sounds and Audio devices/Audio tab). Just one more thing for people to try:

Dell Inspiron 8600
Intel Pentium 1.59GHz
1.25 GB RAM
Sound Blaster Model SB0270 (USB)

More important is the bit you missed out

What graphics chipset do you have?

The Inspiron came in a variety of flavours and the lower end ones just won't be able to handle graphics rendering

Once you know what it is, you should be able to update it
