Hi, I know people can transport their taped shows from TIVO into EMC9 so I was wondering if I can do the same with a DVR machine (Comcast)?? If so, how would I go about doing it??? Thanks!

WEll it just a coincidence that is exactly what I was playing around with today. Comcast support in this area says that they do NOT support this function although the DVR has firewire connections. He suggested Googling the DVR model number. Which worked! My friend has the Motorola DCT6412 DVR. There is a device driver at Sourceforge.net. Unfortunately, it didn't work the way I thought it would, but it did work.
The driver let's Windows recognize the DVR TUNER as a 'capture' device which means it can capture LIVE video only like coming from a camcorder. I would rather let the DVR do the capturing and then just transfer the files to the computer. So I will be researching this a bit more to see if there are other drivers to access the internal hard drive of the Motorola DVR.

That is funny you were trying the same thing. Being that I am "clueless" with this stuff, I have no idea what firewire means?? How do I know if I have that?? I know I probably sound stupid but just bare with me!!
How exactly would I set this up?? If you have to capture it "live" does that mean the show has to be playing while transferring to the computer??

Most computers sold in the past few years all have firewire also know as 1394 ports. It could be labelled as either. See image below. Could be a 6 pin port or a 4 pin port. The Motorola DCT6412 has the 6 pin port in the back of the DVR. You will need to purchase a cable that fits both ends. For example, my laptop has the 4pin port so I needed the 4 pin to 6 pin cable.

HMM, sounds kinda complicated!! Since most of the people close to me look to me with computer problems (I know that's a scary thought!!), I may just leave this idea alone for the moment. I have learned my best with experimenting though!! Thanks for all of your help!!

You're Welcome. After hours of reading forums, etc., I found that Motorola does not support accessing the internal hard drive. So all you can do right now is just live capture or play a recording and 'live capture' that.
