I have an old Backpack CD/RWrewriter to burn CD's . . . it came bundled with Easy CD Creator 4. I had it working last year using Windows XP but I recently reimaged my hard drive and now get the message "Easy CD engine initialization failed" Could not create the engine. I thought I was able to download some driver updates last year but I can't seem any driver updates for CD creator 4. Any suggestions.

There haven't been any updates to ECD4 for more years than enough (and there won't be)

To have got that working in XP, you must have updated an existing 9x installation (and even then only part of it would work).

With a fresh XP install, ECD4 is totally defunct and will NOT work. You need to upgrade to a newer version

IF the built-in WinXP ability to burn data and music CDs isn't enough wink.gif

That is, the built-in Windows XP ability to burn data, and Windows Media Player to burn music CDs.

I also tried to use Easy CD Creator 4 with XP.

Now I get the message: "A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows. "

I just want to get rid of the whole thing now. But I cannot figure out how to uninstall the drivers that keep prompting the message. Anybody who knows where I can find them, so that I can delete them?

Apparently you were in too much of a hurry to check the pinned topics on this Forum, or you would've seen the one on 'ECDC 4 vs WinXP' -

Especially note the info on Roxizap, and the cautions above the link.

I solved the problem by deleting the udf driver that was diabled by Windows XP on startup. As it was indicated to be from Adaptec, I knew I had the right one, I have no software from Adaptec.

So I made a search for UDF and saw the diabled driver, saw that it was from Adaptec, deleted the file, and restarted. No problem anymore. The deleted file was called udfrunin.exe

Later I found out that this solution was available here: http://forums.support.roxio.com/lofiversio...php/t12170.html

Thanks Ed. Glad you got it.
