When recording continous with Sound Editor/Record Now, or Easy Audio Capture, I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error, always between 178 to 185 minutes. This occurs every time. My settings are: Capture From: (sound card), Input: Wave Out Mix, Capture Settings: Wav If I end the recording before 178 minutes all is good. I have been fighting this problem with Sound Editor since Easy Media Creator 7.5. In EMC 7.5 there was no Microsoft Visual C++ error but any continous recording over 180 minutes would cause a blank file with no audio. Recordings less than 180 minutes would be good.
This problem is occuring on 3 different computers. Roxio Tech Support says to "update your audio drivers". My best specs are: Mother Board: ASUS P5N-E SLI
Processor: Intel Core-2 6400 @213Ghz
Memory: 2046 RAM
Graphics: GeForce 7950GT driver date 4/9/2007
Audio: RealTek HD Audio driver date 6/4/2007
OS: XP Pro

I have asked Roxio Tech Support to perform a 190 minute test using the above "Record Now" settings. If someone reading this post can also peform the same test I would like to know your results. I record continous from a internet radio station.

I can't reproduce this error.I captured a 190min file from internet radio.It worked just fine with sound all the way to the end of the file.I never got an error message.

What is your files system on your hard drives? FAT32 or NTFS?

If it's FAT32, you may be running into a file size limitation problem. Convert your hard drive to NTFS should fix that.

tbrewst, were you able to playback a few minutes of the file?


Hard drives on all three computers are NTFS with at least 145GB free space.

I sure was.I played parts from the beginning,middle and end.I let the last 10 min or so play nonstop just to see if it kept going or not.It did.

Same EXACT problem.
Though I made it to 182 minutes today.

Ok guys I might have this.I tried again and it failed so maybe I set it up wrong the first time.
Anyways it seems like there is an inherent limit to the size a wav file can be.It's around 2Gb.
Try Googling for a wav file size limit and you'll find some write ups.
If you do the math I bet you'll find that the 2Gb limit is passed somewhere near the 178 minute mark.

I was capturing as an MP3 at 192 CBR and I still got the error mesage at the same time. (Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library)
Another thing I noticed is I can't "key" in anything over 300 minutes when setting the timer. I have to manually keep adding more minutes with the plus (+) button.
So far I've installed the hotfix, I've adjusted all the settings in services, I've rolled back to WMP10, I've shut off the watch tray in start-up etc. and any other suggestion I could find.
I'm so bummed because I really need the Easy Audio Capture feature in this thing to work and don't know what else to try.

Creative Audigy 2 Soundcard
NEC DVD RW
2 Maxtor Hard Drives (100GB and an 80GB for MP3 storage)

What kills me is my Musicmatch recorder works fine for long periods of recording and timer recording but my Plus features will be expiring soon (no line-in when that happens) and I can't buy another Plus key now that they're being replaced with the Yahoo! player (which doesn't have the line-in feature.)
And yes, I have uninstalled Musicmatch to avoid any conflicts and still no luck.

I have also hit this 2 GB recording limit using the LP and Tape Assistant. I can observe the .wav file being written to the hard disk using Windows Explorer and after reaching any arbitrary file size greater than about 2 GB, hitting the "Stop" recording button causes the file to shrink to 1 KB. What's bizarre is that the LP and Tape Assistant still thinks its a four+ hour recording - it never knows it's really a 1 KB file remnant of that once huge file. Even Windows Media Player thinks it's a four+ hour recording. Opening up the file with a sound editor reveals a zero dB sound for four+ hours. There is definitely some sort of file writing/closing limitation and software error that should be fixed. Roxio - comments?

60 GB Hard drive space free

The size limitation on a wav file is inherent to the format.This is not a Roxio problem.If once that limit is reached the file becomes unusable then I would think that no matter what you use to try and play it is going to have a problem.

I have been having these problems since EMC 7. File size limitation never occured to me. I will check google on file size limitations. Thanks Guys
