I'm tyring to backup approx 7.5 G of data to two DVD+R discs. I've tried to complete it five times and each attempt has failed with the same error:
One or more of your files did not compare to their originals. It is recommended you try to create your disc again. Please remember to shut down all application while disc creation is in progress.
I've tried changing the backup options from "All files in the selected path" to "Only files in the following categories". I've also tried slowing down the max speed from 16x to 12x. No luck.
My DVD drive is a Plextor PX-800A that supports DVD +- 18X and DVD-RAM 12X. Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 came bundled with the drive. No other applications are running during the backup.
The media is TDK DVD+R 16X.
Any help in this matter is appreciated.

It could be a file that was accessed/rewritten/updated by the system or some application between its being backed up and verified. Check that the folders you are backing up don't contain such files and that nothing is running in the background that might be doing that.

I obtained some new discs of a different brand: Memorex DVD+R 8x. I attempted to backup again with the maximum speed set at only 4X, but the backup still fails. No other programs are running. In fact, the only icon showing on the bottom right side of the screen is the speaker icon. I turned off my anti-virus, printer manager, UPS software, etc.
This problem appears to be caused either by the drive itself or by the Roxio software. The drive is brand new, but I'll see if there is a firmware update.

I decided to try again with a more specific folder, in this case, the ITunes Music folder. The subfolder contain only .m4p files, but the problem still happens. I made a copy of this folder and tried to back that up separately. Even so, the error still occurs. I don't believe any program is writing to a previously unknown folder. This seems to be some problem writing and verifying .m4p files.
Another note here is that the location of the fail in the verify is inconsistent. It almost always occurs within the first 1G of the verify, but location seems to change each time. It's hard to get an exact location for the error because this error provides no real useful information. I don't see why the program can't display the name of the file(s) that failed the verify.
I think it's time to find a non-Roxio solution.

Are you using Vista? This could easily be a DRM issue. You may not be ALLOWED to back up encrypted music files. If iTunes has a 'backup function, you may be forced to use that instead.
To verify, try backing up a folder that does not include any iTunes files.

I'm not using Vista, I'm using XP Home with all the latest updates. Excluding audio files does allow the backup to complete the verify phase without an error, but that's not a solution for me because more than 90% of the files I need to backup are audio files.
I'm still frustrated beyond recognition....

Use Creator Classic, and maybe even Memorex DVD's will work. I use Verbatim, because my experience with Memorex media has been bad. All of the Memorex media that I used was manufactured by CMC MAG, the worst in the business.

If 'all the latest updates' include Media Player 11, you have installed a very tight DRM control on your computer. WMP11 in common with IE7 are both Vista apps that were backported to XP and they also included stringent DRM
