Followed Beerman's clean uninstall from Knowledgebase

I did not get an activation screeen when going to a video window. It just worked (like you would expect out of the box). My problem now is I lost all system sound and when I burned a DVD the Audio track played soundless. I know I also deleted sonic stage in this process. I reloaded, but I have no sound being generated. I deleted something I should not have. System restores would not add back. I am now working this issue.

Anyway, this at least got me thru the activation wall. I did not use the regcleaner that Beerman sugested.

Clean Installation of Easy Media Creator from beerman had a few more instructions than what technical support sent me.

One was the additional folder deletion in documents and settings and the other was the deletion of cookies and history.

I was thrilled until I realized I had no sound.

How to perform a clean install for Easy Media Creator versions 7.5, 8, and 9.
Resolution

The following steps will completely remove any Roxio and Sonic software from your computer.

Remove any Roxio and Sonic programs from Add or Remove Programs or use the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility if you receive a certificate file error while trying to remove the Roxio program. (Directions below) Follow the instructions below to use the Microsoft Cleanup Utility to remove software


Download the Microsoft Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to your desktop and install to remove Roxio and Sonic software
Click here to go to the download page.
Scroll down to and click on Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now.
Click on Save and choose to save it on your Desktop.
On your Desktop, double-click on msicuu2.exe file and follow the on-screen instructions to install
Click on Start -> All programs -> Windows Install Clean up
Select Roxio Easy Media Creator or any entry started with Roxio or Sonic.
Click on Remove.



Once that is completed please disable your startup applications using MSCONFIG. This will disable any unnecessary background or system tray applications from loading.
Click on Start -> select Run -> Type "msconfig" then click OK.
Select the Startup tab.
Click the Disable All button.
Click the Apply button, then click the OK button.
Click the Restart button.


To reverse this just go back in and click enable all and restart (that can be done once installation is complete)


For the step below you will need to show hidden files. This can be done by clicking on my computer then go up and click on Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab. Make sure show hidden folders is selected and click Apply.


Delete these folders from your hard drive.

NOTE: When trying this step you may receive a message that a "file is in use". Simply drag that file to your desktop and it can be removed after restarting the computer. Also note that "Username" referred to below is the name you use when logging into Windows XP.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Roxio
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sonic
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Roxio
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Sonic
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Roxio

Empty the recycle bin once the steps above are completed.


Go into your browser and clear out the cookies and browsing history. This is usually found in the Tools --> Options window under the General or Security tab.


Remove these keys from the registry:

WARNING: THE NEXT STEP INVOLVES EDITING YOUR SYSTEM REGISTRY. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU EXPORT YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY EDITING. EDITING YOUR REGISTRY INCORRECTLY CAN CAUSE IRREPARABLE SYSTEM DAMAGE.

To export a copy of your registry, please do the following
Go to Start --> Run, type "regedit" and click OK.
Locate and left click File in the upper left hand corner of the Registry editor.
Click Export (Export range "All" should be selected).
Choose a location on your hard drive and give the file a name.
Click Save. Your registry should now be backed up in a .reg file to the location you specified


Registry Edit instructions:

Click on Start -> select Run. Type "regedit" then click OK
Double-click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder this will expand or open the folder.
Locate the Software folder.
Locate the Roxio folder.
Right click on Roxio and click delete.
Do the same for the Sonic folder.
Close the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder.

Do the same for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.



Double-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder this will expand or open the folder.
Locate the Software folder
Locate the Roxio folder
Right click on Roxio and click delete.
Do the same for the Sonic folder.
Close the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.



Restart the computer then reinstall Easy Media Creator 8 or 9.

You're not getting sound in any other program outside of Roxio? Can you list your computer specs? Do you have a dedicated sound card or onboard audio? I guess it's possible you removed a reg entry that caused the problem. Check out the system properties/Device Manager and see if you have a yellow ! next to the sound. You might need to reinstall the drivers.

Removed and reinstalle audio and video drivers. There were no ! in device manager.

So it's still not working? Did you check the settings for sound in the control panel and make sure they are correct? Checked all the cables to make sure they're ok?
You didn't answer all of my questions. Do you have an onboard audio chip or a dedicated sound card?

I wouldn't do this yet but Regcleaner should have made a backup before it completed it's work. However, it you add the entries back in the registry, I'm not sure if the other problems you fixed will come back or not or what if any other problems may occur. I've not heard of anyone losing sound after following the clean install method which I have had to use way too many times.

Sorry for delay. I checked yeaterday and site was down for Maintenance.

No sound.

Checked cables sound not muted.

I have a PCI sound card see attached.

When I burned a DVD slide shoe with EMC9 the audio track I attached did not play on DVD player,

I did export a copy of the registry. Tech support told me to try rebooting in safe mode and note what happens.

I'm still perplexed as to why no sound. While I can understand you pointing to EMC as the cause, it is very odd if that's the case. If it were, reinstalling drivers surely would have helped.
You did not attach anything but you can use Imageshack to post pictures on this site.
Try importing your registry back and see what happens or if you can, use System Restore and go back to the point before you installed Roxio and restore your system.

Could not use system restore to a date. Probbly can go back to square one system restore.

Read the MS Help files.

Start---Run and type regedit
When the registry editor opens, go to File---Import and browse to where you have the saved reg file and select it.
If you used a program like Regseeker and saved the file before you made changes, you can also restore it from that program. Many registry cleaners can do the same thing.

Thanks for your help. I could not get in the last few days and thought I was blocked.

Registry restore did not work, Restored system to original stae and reloaded windows and PC updates. Loaded EMC9 first and it worked.
