I am using EMC8 and would like to output individual slide shows in MPEG format so I can rearrange them in other projects. In the help menu, I found the following:

Step five: Output your movie
This section describes how to output your movie in different ways, depending on what you want to do with your movie.

To output your production in one of many formats:

The top of the screen indicates that my version may not have this capability. I cannot find the buttons indicated. Do I need to upgrade to get this capability? If so, to what version (I am using Windows XP Professional - not Vista).

In Video Wave, when you click on the film icon above the preview screen, what happens? Does another window open?

or do you not see the icon?

What display resolution are you running?

Sometimes if a video card is outdated, some people lose icons. What video set up do you have card/chip, manufacturer and model number. Have you updated the drivers for it?

Two other things to try, in Video Wave, go to the top menu and select tools, options, then put a dot near software rendering. If that doesn't work, open Video Wave via Windows>Start>Programs> Roxio EMC 8 etc. see if you get that icon then.

Is everything else working? You may want to try a repair via Windows Add or Remove programs.

All versions of EMC 8, except the Deluxe version, were somewhat stripped down, and many of the features were not available. Your version may not have that capability.

I figured out how to output to MPEG from Videowave, but I have constructed a number of slide shows in MYDVD. I cannot output slides from MYDVD and am unable to open my MYDVD project slides in Videowave. So far, it looks like I will have to reconstruct the slide shows/movies in Videowave, then output them to MPEG.

I recently upgraded my video and other drivers in response to advice from the Roxio tech support team. I think I have everything up-to-date.

You are correct that you cannot output the MyDVD slide shows to mpg files. In earlier versions there was a work around but that no longer works. I hope they were not big slide shows. If they are very large and you don't want to do a lot of editing of the images, you could output those projects to a DVD (RW). Then you could bring the VOB files back into VideoWave, do any necessary trimming there and output to mpg. You'll have to judge which is easier.

I tried to open my VOB files with Videowave, but it does not recognize them. Any suggestions on how I can open them?

Change the file extension from .vob to .mpg This works most of the time.

Make a copy of the VOB files and rename the extension from VOB to MPG.

With fingers crossed, that may be all you need to do to get VW to read them in.

Changing the VOB to MPG worked. Now I have mpgs of all my slide shows and I did not have to go to Videowave to do it . Thanks for the help.
