Hi all

I just bought this program, my trial version worked great so purchased the program from retail store. I tried to install the program, the disc will not autoplay. have to install the long way. Needless to say, it starts, then hangs and tells me there is a missing script file and stops. I had one successful install then when I clicked on the home icon, nothing happened. i rebooted. then i got this sonic backup come up everytime i booted, it tried to install then it hung there. my only comment here is are these programs tested out on different machines, OS before they are put on the shelf for us to buy.

this is extremely frustrating, you buy a program you do expect it to work.

any help would be appreciated. also i feel when you buy a new program you should not have to go to a forum and complain about it.

OK - missing files, try this

Make a temp folder anywhere on your computer (desktop or wherever and call it whatever you like). Open that, open the Cd and copy all files to the folder you just made.

If they copy, then double click on setup.exe - if they don't copy, check for thumb prints or damage to the CD

Let us know if that worked

I started a thread regarding the fact that autorun wouldn't activate on attempted EMC9 installation. It was suggested that I try running setup, which I had already tried and that had also failed.

So, I just started searching all the threads. I'm posting here because this may help someone else.

1. OS Vista Home Premium
2. Downloaded full EMC9 from Sonic
3. Download seemed to hang and was a shaky install
4. I had ordered the backup CD's so when they arrived I did a clean uninstall of the download and tried to install from the CD's
5. Autorun never worked. Each time the CD was inserted the Autoplay window came up to play video, audio, photo etc., I did a sysyem restore plus a number of other things none of which worked.

I'm not a computer whiz but I do know my way around just enough to keep me out of trouble and to always assume what I try could be a bad fix.

This suggestion of copying the files to a temp folder on the desktop worked seemlessly. THANK YOU...THANK YOU
I spent 3 days on this before I got this thing to install using your suggestion. What a simple solution!

Just a Question;
Because I downloaded EMC9 from the internet, were the two back up CD's Roxio sent somehow "different" from say install CD's that would have been purchased from a retail store? That's all I can figure because I've not had this issue with any other program I've installed into Vista.

I honestly don't know what difference there would be between the ESD and boxed versions (well apart from the obvious one of no dead tree supplied with them)

The 'copy to folder' trick has been used with retail boxed sets and it does seem to work in a lot of cases (dunno why but if it works, I won't knock it laugh.gif )

btw, if you do need a manual, it can be downloaded (in .pdf format) from here
