Is it possible to edit the length of an mp3 and save it without further compression?

Sure, take it into Sound Editor, cut out what you don't want, and export the clip as an .mp3 at whatever quality you want.

I'd suggest doing a Google search for "mp3 editor" and you'll find lots of hits. Look for one that says it doesn't recompress.
