Dear developers and partincipants of the forum!

I use D2D of EMCDC 8.05 as a packet writing software. It works correctly under Windows 2003, maybe to the surprise of the developers who disabled D2D software support (under Windows 2003) in the later versions of EMCDC (10). The driver itself (v. 8) is written well, and I'm surprised why there is no further support of this software, why there is no separate D2D software. But I've found a bug in D2D and EasyWrite Reader 8.x:

1. Under Windows 2003 insert an UDF 2.0 DVD-RW (not a CD/CD-RW!) formatted under D2D with some written information.
2. Share the CD/DVD letter over the network
3. Connect the shared network drive on the other computer of the network
4. Try to open some files on the shared DVD.

A trap will happen that will cause a reboot of Windows 2003 Server with installed D2D (or EasyWrite Reader). To test this bug it's enough to install only an EasyWrite reader.

I'd like to hear your comments on this bug and hope it will be fixed soon.

Also, I would like to know if there are any further developments and support of D2D and IBM DLA programs.

Sincerely yours,
Grant L. Atoyn

A couple of points

1: No Roxio product is supported in a server OS (in fact I'm surprised you got it to work at all). Also, no version of EMC prior to 9.1 is certified for Vista and will in all probability fail if IE7 and/or WMP11 are installed on earlier OSs

2: D2D wasn't 'disabled' in EMC 10 - it isn't there to be disabled (also Nero has discontinued InCD)

3: I don't know about Server 2003, but Vista has its own packet-writing system built in for both DVD and CD (XP used the safer session writing but for CD only)

4: The 'bug' you mentioned could easily (pun not intentional) have been caused by EasyWrite. As a general rule, no two packet writing systems can co-exist (they both want to take control of the drive)

I see you and Mr Hardin have posted this ever since EMC V 10 release.

Is it available on the web to read? Or did the Emperor email you that information?

It's alive and well in V 7 if one would want to install it.

System Requirements,

Microsoft® Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (all applications except InCD, InCD Reader, Nero Scout and Nero ImageDrive work in the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows applications to run)
Microsoft® Windows VISTA x64 (all applications except InCD, InCD Reader, Nero Scout and Nero ImageDrive work in the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows applications to run). Gadgets are not available under VISTA x64

Grant: I am one of the few folks around here that actually dabbles in packet writing.

I have not found any personal use for it for more than a year or 2.

As Daithi pointed out you have it installed on an OS that it was never designed to work on.

You are using a version that has been out of production for a year.

Not to be too brutal about this, but you might as well go to Corel with a "bug report" on Word Perfect for Windows when running in OS2!!!

If you worked in IS where I work, this misuse of software would have gotten you a disciplinary action! If that reboot caused any serious data lose, you would be trolling Monster.com.
