I wrote customer care about a problem - a fair number of EMC modules stopped working - and got a pretty scant and, I think, incomplete response today. I've also read a bunch of forum posts and am confused about precisely how to get rid of all shreds of EMC8 so I can reinstall the software to its fully functional state. Specifically:

1. Does the roxizap.exe file work for version 8? When I start the app, it references only versions 4 and 5. (I might forgo roxizap anyway, in that I've read it sometimes messes with other burner software and drivers.)

2. Would I run msicuu2.exe (MS Installer Cleanup Utility) after I uninstall the program using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs? It sounds like, were I to run it before removing the program, it wouldn't even be listed among add/remove programs.

I'm thinking that the steps that would work are to uninstall it using Control Panel, then running the MS Installer Cleanup Utility to get rid of references in the registry. Then I'd check for traces on the hard drive. Does that sound like a proper course?

Thanks - good karma to anyone who can help.

No, roxizap won't help for v8. Follow the "Clean Install" instructions in the KnowledgeBase

*** CLEAN INSTALL LINKS ****
XP: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000086CR
Vista: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR

BTW, the MS installer cleanup tool only removes entries from the MS installer, it doesn't remove any registry entries made by programs.

Are you saying that there's no need to run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility? (It's listed as first step in the "resolution," but it's a bit confusing because the instructions state, "...if you receive a certificate file error," which I did not. My problem is that several modules - Cinemagic, Slide Show Assistant, etc., just stopped working properly.)

I read those instructions earlier but that particular step isn't clear. (It wouldn't hurt to run that anyway, I reckon, eh?)

And thanks for your help - I appreciate it.

Yes, run the MS Cleanup Utility. It dumps entries in the Windows folder.

I wasn't saying not to run it, just that it does something different than what you posted you thought it did. You still want to run it to clean things up, like what Bruce noted.

I think I get it now. Basically, the idea is that you're manually uninstalling bits and pieces rather than using Windows Control Panel's add/"remove" software. Thanks again. Wish me luck.

OK. It's done (well, redone). It worked. On the one hand, yea. On the other, two bits of advice:
1. Roxio needs to add a custom uninstall. This process is too complicated and risky for most users.
2. Their technical support team needs to read the actual solution. The one that was sent to me would not have worked, wasn't actually a "process" per se, and was woefully incomplete.
Still, in the end, the community came through. Thanks for your help.
