How can I just pick out a portion of a home dvd that I want to use? I only want about 5 min from a 45 min dvd.

I don't have Popcorn 2 around to check, but you may be able to select specific chapters to export. Click the Options button and see if there is a way to select chapters rather than entire titles. This may be explained in Popcorn Help.

The best approach, however, is to use MPEG Streamclip to cut the part of the video you want. Streamclip is free but it requires Apple's $20 QuickTime MPEG 2 Playback Component which you download from the Apple online store. After opening the video from the DVD in Streamclip use the Edit menu to select the in and out points for the segment you want and then choose Trim. Then choose Convert to MPEG if you want the format to be unchanged. Or you can export to other formats such as ones that can be used in iMovie.
