Yesterday I had to completely reformat and re-install the software that came with my new XPS desktop computer. The install was clean and the computer was brought back to factory delivered state. No security, firewall, anti-virus, etc. software installed on the machine. Took the computer offline and installed EMC 9. Got what appeared to be a clean install, connected again to the Internet and registered the product successfully. Opened the application and when I tried to use CinePlayer and my DVD, I got the dreaded Invalid Product Key error.

Prior to this reinstatement process, I had uninstalled and re-installed EMC 9 FIVE TIMES with the same result. I followed the instructions provided in this forum. I contacted Roxio Technical Support (term used loosely) and chatted with Luke. I explained what happened and asked for a solution. Luke asked the usual questions; Did I buy directly from Roxio? Yes. Does the error message mention mpeg 2? No. He the procedes to provide me with a Microsoft URL that shows me how to disable Defender (he didn't ask if I had Defender installed), then gave me the Roxio URL for a complete uninstall.

He then thanked me for choosing Roxio, signed off and ended the chat. DUH????
