My system runs windows vista. I had written a CD-R as a open session earlier. Had acessed the data on the CD many times on my system. Recently i used the CD on the windows Xp platform, but it did not recognise the data n prompted that the CD is blank.

I loaded the CD on my system, which was able to detect the data, But while i tried to eject the CD, the system prompted me to wait as it tried to close the session so that it can be read on any system, soon it got ejected. Since then i am unable to acess the data on the cd on any system, even my system prompts me that the CD is blank. pls help, as this data is very important.

Open Sessions ceased to exist starting in V6.

Your only recouse is to find a PC than can run the older version you wrote it with or go for CDRoller, or ISOBuster.

If you used Packet-Writing (formatted the disc, as for Drag2Disc, DirectCD, Sonic's DLA, Nero's InCD, etc), or used RW media, the odds are poorer.

If you used Packet-Writing and RW media, good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried using ISo Buster.
The CD contained executable files, but now the extracted file names have been changed. hence the files are not able to recognise each other. Is there any option by which i can get back with the original names. The extracted file name comes as " recovered 1.xxx, recovered 2.xxx,........"

You will have to use Explorer, with "Hide extensions for known file types" turned OFF. Then rename each file to the proper extension.

Hint: Make a New Folder and Copy the recovered files into it. That is your 'work folder', until you get it completed and are satisfied there are no mistakes.

I would only do a couple of them and test to make sure they are intact. I have never used the program but the fact that it didn't use the existing extension troubles me… They may be corrupted.

As you indicated you used Sessions, I was thinking that ISO Buster had a way to make past sessions active???

IsoBuster shows you all the sessions it can find immediately, after mounting the media.
Starting from the session of your choice you can then extract old or new data without any difficulties.

Last, if the session truly stays hidden, then there's still the " Find lost files and folders " option which can bring back any older session.
