I am posting this here because I do not know where else to post it, there is no forum for MGI Videowave 5. I installed this software when I couldn't get ECDC 6 to capture video, either. I posted a long message in the ECDC 6 forum about this. My 1394 card is from a product called Adaptec DV Pics, which came bundled with an oem version of Videowave 4.

When I try to capture video, VW5 starts acting screwy. It repeatedly finds and loses the camera, a JVC camcorder. Task Manager shows it as not responding, then responding, then not responding ...

I have checked the version, and it is 5.0.976, the latest (and last?) one available. Windows Movie Maker captures the video without a hitch.

This may not be any help, but we had the same problem on and off with VW3se and then briefly with VW5.

It was a driver problem, we removed and added different ones, eg: Adaptec, Texas etc with eratic success with VW3se, eventually DirectX9.0c came along (has a stable 1394 video driver built in), we removed the 1394 card and old drivers, rebooted twice after upgrading to DirectX9.0c, then shutdown and reinstalled the 1394 card, no problems since then.

We did not know it at the time but it seems there was a conflict with older DirectX and the third party 1394 drivers (using Win 98SE). Our 1394 card uses a Texas chip set, its about four years old.

The easiest solution would be to capture with Window Movie Maker as DV AVI video and then use that footage in VideoWave.
