Need help in figuring out how to get CDFS as the file management system when using CD/DVD creation. Am trying to write digital photo files (jpg) onto CD's as back up and also for viewing on our TV using a DVD player. No problem writing the files, but my DVD player will not recognize the CD since the file management system appears to be incompatible. CDs that come from some other individuals work ok and use CDFS.

I'm certain that there is a rather simple solution to this. Just haven't been able to figure it out yet. Would appreciate any help.

What application in the EMC 9 suite are you using?

I just wanted to copy some jpg's to a cd disk so I was using Drag-to-Disk and then finalizing the disk at ejct. Same thing happens when I exit Drag-to-Disk and use Windows drag & drop to create the cd.

Use Creator Classic instead of Drag to Disc.

Still did not work. Creator classic made a disc with UDF file system.
I saw no option that would let me use the CDFS file system.
In my Panasonic dvd player/recorder it gave an onscreen message of "Disk is Incompatible" and the Panasonic front panel indicated "Unsupported".

Are you sure your player is able to play jpegs? Simply take a blank DVD and then use Creator Classic to copy your jpegs to the disc. It could not be any simpler. There is no selecting of any file system required.

I hope you are not formatting your discs? That will never work with Creator Classic.

If you want to burn in CDFS, take a CD and run Creator Classic.
In Classic, go to the top toolbar, File > Project Properties, and alter the file system type away from UDF. Set the new setting as the default.

Changing mine to ISO9660 or Joliet burned the CD using CDFS.

I have never seen Classic default to anything but Joliet! You have to make a real effort to change the File System in Classic. (as Brendon has outlined)

Likewise XP Burning will only use Joliet and nothing can change that…

However it is rare to find a Player that will play a CD that has not been set to Read Only

I suggest that you try one with what Brendon outlined, starting with Joliet, and after you click Burn, make sure Read Only is checked.

According to EMC 9 suggestions, I was using a Multimedia Disc Project. Brendon suggests changing File > Project Properties.
I don't have that but do have File > Project Settings. For a Multimedia Project Type the File System is set to "UDF102" and the Bridge is set to "Joliet Bridge" and they cannot be changed. Also for Multimedia Type there are checkboxes for "enable MPV" and "enable HighMAT". Both boxes were checked by default.

For a "Data Disk" type project, I do have some choices.
File System can be set to ISO9660, Joliet, or UDF102. The default that I have been usaing was the UDF102.
Bridge can be set to ISO9660 Bridge, Joliet Bridge, or No Bridge. The default I have been using was the Joliet Bridge.

Should I be using the Data Disk type project insteas of the Multimedia type?

I am limited in time right now. I will later try to make a jpg photo CD using the Data Disk project and Joliet File System and Joliet Bridge settings later today, and willl be sure to check Read only when I burn. I don't thing I ever checked that box on the earlier attempts.

Any other suggestions

You are not using Creator Classic, as there is no such thing as a "Mutimedia Project Type" in CC…

You are using RecordNow, whether you realize it or not, which is accessed through the Home application.

Almost none of use the Home application so it was assumed you were using Classic…

As Brendon and I both told you you must make a data project in Joliet and it must be Read Only.

CDFS is the File System used by the first CD's ever made. It predates Linux by a decade+…

I have not yet had time to try the method stated in my last reply. Will try tonight. However a couple of things in your last message have left me confused.
My invoice indicates that on Jan 9, 2007 I bought "Easy Media Creator 9 Suite - PHY". Because of your comments I looked under "Help> About this Software" and it says I have Roxio Creatopr 9 Home, Version 9.0.088. The Creator Classic Module in the suite says it is Roxio Easy Media Creator 9, Build 900B88F ENU.

The Start Menu listing for my Roxio does have RecordNow modules for RecordNow Audio, RecordNow Data, and RecordNow Copy, but I have not knowingly used them. The module I have been using comes up with "Roxio Creator Classic" listed on top right of the window.

I am not sure I understand the "Almost none of use the Home application so it was assumed you were using Classic" sentence. Was that supposed to say "Almost none of us use the ....." ?

I will try the Data Disc type project in my version of Creator Classic. I will use Joliet File System and Joliet Bridge selections and will select Read Only when I burn.

Will let you know if it works.

Does your home screen look like this? Yes, the start menu listing will list the Record Now. Those programs would open in the center of the image I showed. Use the Creator Classic from the Home menu or Creator Classic under the data tab on the start menu.

Hmmm, what browser are you using. What I see (IE 7) is an image that has been resized to fit. There is no link and no information about download. I'll try FF to see what happens. The new software for the Invision server does not seem to be optimized for IE 6.

This is what I see in IE 7 oops, I also posted an image to show you but that won't be any better than before. I guess the new software is not optimized for FireFox either.

What I see if a reduced size low resolution of the image I posted. I hope this is added to the long list of problems.

FF and IE 6 shows what I posted above. FF is the only one working. IE 6 gives me this...

Interesting, it may be a permissions issue.

If I log on using my normal account then I see the image using both FF and IE 7.

If I go on as a guest, then I see what you see.

I tried ot log on with a dummy account and could not.

All FF found was a download - it never finished, it just hung my internet connection.

Maybe this would be great fun for the MyBook/FaceSpace crowd, but it's not much use for helping people with software problems.

Thank you for the help. I now can produce the CDFS disks and they work in my panasonic DVD Player/recorder.
It is easy now that I know how.

Now juat need to figure out how to set up multiple folders of jpg's that can be slide show or manual display.

Sorry HJM, I can't help you there - My DVD players will both run a slideshow on data CDs or DVDs full of JPGs by just highlighting one and pressing the Play button. I've never had to go and "make" a slideshow.

That would be pretty easy! However not all Players will be able to read them…

Make a Folder for your Project, "Pictures" in this case.

Add Sub-Folders within it. (I would stick to 8 character name limits and use underscores (_) instead of spaces)

Put your files within the sub-folders.

Add the Sub-Folders to the Project and burn.

You can actually create the Folders directly in Creator Classic, but setting it up ahead of time makes it easier to see and make adjustments.
