I'm having a problem similar to what Von was having. Every time I start any of the programs in Roxio 8 after a minute or so the windows installer starts. I’ve tried letting it get whatever it wants by pointing it to the installer disk but it doesn’t help. I’ve tried doing a clean install by manually removing the program and by doing an add/repair program. The programs all worked until a little over a week ago when I had to reinstall windows ( XP Pro) and since then I’ve had problems with Roxio. Any suggestions?

Yes,

You seem to have a problem with the Microsoft Installer.

Uninstall the suite using the Control Panel > Add/Remove programs system.
Then run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility available here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 after you've read the instructions on that page properly.

Remove installer references to EMC8 or its components, then restart the machine and reinstall EMC 8.

Brendon

I have tried this several times, even manually editing out of the registry ALL references to Roxio and Sonic, and the reinstalling EMC 8. I still get the Windows Installer when I start the program and then it reboots the computer. Any suggestions will be appreciated as I am tearing my hair out.

Thanks,
rose

You've used Microsoft's MSICUU several times and it didn't work, Rose?

I found my problem was a windows update problem. There was an update that could not install because another update was not installed. Try going to Microsoft update and click on CUSTOM updates. See if there are any software updates there you need. Then go back and do an express update.
This worked for me. Not sure why but I didn't want to argue with success.

Brendan, after a solid week of trying to pick all the bits of Roxio out of my computer, not unlike fleas from a dog, I gave up and decided to reformat the hard drive. But then I stumbled onto this Forum, found your advice; it worked; and you, sir, are a Good Samaritan!

Glad to have helped, Mike.

Thanks for the feedback.
