We are working on a large slide show production and are finding the computer getting REALLY slow when we do simple edits - deleting a slide, adding simple text to a slide, etc.

When we saved the original production it created a Production folder in My Doc's, but there was also another folder automatically created with the same title but saved with a CV/DVD symbol after it. Is this normal and can we delete this duplicate file? It is only about 1/2 the size of the production (but still a large file)and it seems to update itself every time we edit the original production. It is taking up memory space and is probably why edit take so long - it's changing 2 folders of information.....just guessing here but it looks like that's what it's doing.

In way of background we didn't use the wizard to create the slideshow we went directly into the main menu and used the add photos, etc. there; worked in the story line to edit photos and in timeline to edit music.

It has taken so long to do the production editing I don't want to lose or corrupt the file before we get a chance to burn the disc but it is an exercise in incredible patience to work with the folders.

Our computer had the memory and power to drive the program but the only other thing I can think of is the possibility of some other process working in the background impeding processing.

Any thoughts?????

You will have to be a bit more specific on what what you are describing in your 2nd paragraph. I have no idea what you mean by "production" folder and a "second folder". Do these folder/files have a name and/or extension?

The best way to create a slideshow is to avoid the wizards (which you have done) and start with Videowave. Also what is the length in time of your production. Sometimes it is better to create several smaller slideshows using Videowave and combine them later in myDVD.

... also is it possible that you changed the location of where the proxy files are created or stored? In a long production, these can become rather large. The proxy files are essentially a staging file to speed up opening and closing the production. They may contain what is in the project now and some of the edits that you made to the original. They are usually cleared when you close Video Wave but perhaps they are not. In Video Wave, go to the top menu and select tools, options and then clear the proxy files. They are immediately rebuilt.

If you are doing a lot of editing without saving and closing the production (which will clear the proxy files) , you can do this periodically when you notice the editing getting slow.

The other files created by Video Wave (dat) are just road maps or instructions to the program with what to do with each item in the project. These are required and pretty small.

If you open the folder, what is the extension of the files that are in it? Set the folder to show details.

Do you have your anti-virus running while you are doing the editing? Sometimes they scan everything being read to your hard drive. They can cause slow downs and other problems.
