I have been using RecordNow 9 Music Lab for a few months and just recently begun having problems with CD burning. The application burns DVDs (even 4.4GB) with no issues, but on the same burner the software "hangs" after a few MB of "Program Running" status updates. The burner continues to flash, the CPU shows activity (green led flashing) but nothing happens on the screen. "Cancel" does not work and the hang up can only be ended by unplugging the pc!!!
The problem occurs about 9 times out of 10, whether copying from another CD on another drive, burning from the hard drive using .wav files or data files. Once the pc has hung, the CD is shown as "full" and cannot be used. I have only ever used CD-R media and the problem occurs with Sony, Memorex and Staples brands. The fact that sometimes the software works (rarely) makes it very frustrating to troubleshoot.
However, I have reinstalled the Roxio software, have checked for Device driver updates and ensured that DMA is enabled. I have made no changes to the pc and installed no new software prior to the problem occuring.
I have scoured the Roxio forums for similar problems but none have been quite like this one.
BTW - The same drive will read both CDs and DVDs with no issues. In addition, Microsoft Windows Media Player will happily burn audio files to the same drive, without error, regardless of CD-R brand. This makes me think the issue is purely software (Roxio) related....but I could be wrong.
