Full Version: Media Manager For Blackberry Keeps Trying To Install

Bought a blackberry with Media Manager 9 in Dec 2007. It worked great until a couple of weeks ago where when I open media manager to transfer files to and from my Blackberry, Media Manager tries to do an install, when I click cancel it keeps trying over and over .... I finally have to reboot my system to stop it. I uninstalled the blackberry Desktop manager but Media Manger 9 still shows up in the programs section of Start button. Windows Unistall/install doesn't find it when searches for applications so I can't uninstall it that way. Uninstall isn't available when I go to MM9 and not in the folders in the MM9 folder under Program files-common files folder. I tried reinstalling the Blackberry Desktop Manager using the CD hoping it would remove and nothing. The install cd even has an option to replace or fix installed components but no luck there as soon as I choose transfer data which uses MM9 boom the bloody thing starts the install again and never stops. MM9 does start up and comes on but then the whole thing locks up because the install takes up all my CPU.

This has become really frustrating PLEASE HELP all I want to uninstall the corrupted version and reinstall using the CD again.

I have the same problem, and don't expect this to be easy.
I bought Roxio version 8 and had the SAME problem that they never menaged to fix. I finally get some technology that works (a Blackberry) and guess who sneaks in there to mess it up for me? Roxio. A pox on their software that just makes my life harder.
I have tried disconnecting from Roxio for years and they keep sending me emails trying to sell version 9!!! version 10!!!! I won't buy version 9,10,11,12,13, or 14 even if the company stays alive that long.

How to get rid of the software, and roll-back to a pre-Roxio (ie working) version of the media software:

I was having the same problems with the Media Manager associated to the Blackberry 8830 Roxio software provided with my unit. I resolved it by completing a hybrid of the aforementioned posts. Try this:

1. Right click on "my computer" and choose "manage"
2. In the new window (in the right window pane), double click on "services and applications"
3. double click on "services" in the right window pane
4. scroll down to "Windows Installer", right click and choose "properties"
5. where it says "manual", set it to "disabled"

Keep this window open for now as you are going to set it back to manual in a moment.

Go to the below Microsoft web site and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Save it on your desktop, install it and run the application. The "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" will only run if you have completed steps 1-5 above, otherwise it will say that you are trying to install too many things at once (because Roxio Media Manager is in a perpetual installation loop).

With steps 1-5 complete, select "Roxio Media Manager" for removal using the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility".

Afterwards, go back to your open window and reverse step 5 above (set it back to "manual" and apply it).

This should fix the issue. After attempting several solutions- this did it!

You are replying to a dead 2 year old thread. I would have hoped that would have fixed it by now. tongue.gif

MJD2, the information might not have been useful anymore for the other person, but I have to give you a HUGE thanks, because I've been plagued with this problem for 2 weeks now. Thanks to your post...my computer is back to normal! biggrin.gif

I want to know who do we charge for the hours of our time wasted dealing with this bug and trying to figure out how to stop and uninstall the installer trying to consistently and repeatedly install Roxio Media Manager on our workstation? This is worse than a virus to have to deal with.

Attention all Black Berry users! DO NOT DOWNLAOD AND INSTALL ROXIO MEDIA MANAGER FOR YOUR BLACKBERRY.
THis took hours for me to stop and get rid of!!!!

Sincerely frustrated and very disappointed,
George
