I did get a response, but it was just to do a "clean install" which I had already done...
If you ask me, there are a lot of variations on "clean install", so I went for broke, so to speak...
I followed the KB note on clean install, removing the software, getting rid of the registry entries. I searched my whole
hard disk for anything "sonic" or "roxio" and deleted it all. I also deleted all my other multimedia software (Nero).
I also ran a registry cleaner (on a 1 month old PC :^) )
Then I reinstalled EMC - which worked. The I put my other software back. Which also seems to have worked.
I'm guessing I just had a "perfect storm" of activity to make this happen. Didn't delete Dell's original crippled Roxio sw well
enough, then added other software with codecs, etc. But still - a major pain.
Also, since the mpeg2 codec was activated, I was never asked for my product key, so I STILL don't know anything
other than my Digital river CD Key.

Got the same problem. Being sent from place to place only to find there is no number there to activate. only have a 17 digit cd key. have tried all the roxio methods to no avail.worst software install I have tied in many years. What a waist of time.
