Hi, I hope this is my hope to get back my burning rom working back.

So long, waiting for solution for this probem. No solutions are worked at all. I have changed registry, install PX fix(if i am not mistaken) and Install Easy Creator 10(now uninstalled). All not worked at allll.

My Device Manager & Easy Creator 9 did not detected any drive in my computer. Take a look at my screenshot.

Before this, the drive some times appeared and can be use but sometimes dissappeared from Device Manager(Also in My Computer) and Easy Creator 9.
Now, its permanently disappeared from my pc. What a frustration out here...So sad

Trying to using Recovery Manager by HP also did not worked. I have tried to uninstalled Roxio/Easy Creator 9 but inside the Program & Features, the menu for Uninstall not appeared like any other softwares/programs.

If BIOS is not recognizing the drive either, it appears to be a hardware failure. Would you happen to have a another spare drive to test or test the drive in question into a diff system ?

Seriously - if you suspect the motherboard, swap the hard drive and optical ribbons round and see if either fails to pick up on boot.

You may have a faulty drive tho

The registry to remove string etc. have already made. But no good sign from what I have done.

From BIOS, in boot i can see the ATAPI CD/DVD drive etc. etc. But I am confused whether the name is a general name like any other BIOS or name for my drive.

My computer still under warranty. I think if there is no resolution about this problem, so I planned to send my computer to the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Center in this nearest time.

Go to device manager and right mouse click on "your PC". Then select Scan for Hardware Changes. VISTA might redetect the drive. Also try deleting out the adapters with the yellow exclamation point and then reboot. VISTA will then redetect the adapters and install the drivers. If the yellow exclamation points reappear then check the error code by right mouse clicking on one of the adapters. Then go the Microsoft Support Bulletin Board and do a search on the error code.

Actually, instead of trying to force a detect, go to device manager and uninstall it if it's there - then reboot and force Windows into detecting it again.

If it's not showing in device manager, then it's possible that it is faulty (as you say, the BIOS shows it)

The OP's drive is not showing up. Hopefully it wasn't disabled in the bios by accident. Looks like a laptop so the chance of a cable being off is slim.

I don't see the device in the above device manager caption. Showing up in bios indicates the device is there but it could still be disabled and therefore VISTA will not discover the device. The OP needs to recheck the bios to ensure that the device is enabled and then fix the yellow exclamation point issue with the MS ISATAP adapters. MS says it is not a big issue but I have VISTA and a HP Laptop and I don't have the yellow exclamation point problem.

The OP may have to go back to known good restore point and see if the drive reappears.

You had use of your drives and they were visible, now they're not. Below is what's needed to repair that.

Missing cd/dvd drive In Vista Upper/Lower Filters

The manual fix is below.
This fix is similar to the one for Windows Xp , but the filters are located in a diferent set of Keys

Restore Missing CD/Dvd Drives

follow these directions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters in Vista: (might want to print this out)

1. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key ( if Vista Start search or windows+R )

2. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or


3. clicking the "+" next to it.)

4. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key

5. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key

6. Expand the "Control" Key

7. Expand the "Class" Key

8. Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

9. High light this key by left clicking once on it

10. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"

11. Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen

Reboot your computer

Today I saw, something better than yesterday. Take a look at the screenshot:

Big Dave, I have removed/uninstalled the Microsoft ISATAP Adapter. And not yet rescan for any hardware changes. I will do it later.

But just now, I have open BIOS and in the Boot Options > Boot Order. In the list of drives/devices, there were two exclamation mark in front of ATAPI CD/DVD... and Internal Adapter(Maybe got ISATAP in the name, I forgot).

Then, in Computer there were an icon "DVD RW Drive". But the drive name for my DVD is not same like the old one. If I am not mistaken, there were a "LS" word on the drive name which means a LightScribe but now just "..L632M..". Erm, maybe because so long time unable to use this drive might be I have forgotten the drive name.

IN the Roxio Creator Basic 9, the DRIVE still NOT DETECTED. I also do not know, why still like that even the drive & icons already appeared.

For your information, I have already downloaded the EMC9.1 update and tried to install but failed. Maybe the version is not compatible with mine...(Roxio Creator Basic 9.0.114).

But so far, I can listen to my favorite music songs right now. Perhaps, one or more solutions above can be use as referenced because I have used or done all of the techniques above.

Hope it would never dissappeared again and permanently can be use.

If you can now see and use the drive in Windows then try running #5 in cd's signature again.

What do you mean with #5?

After troubleshoot this problem, little bit improvement can be see now. But, this drive is not fully functioned after a few times of missing icons and drive in Device Manager happened.

Plus, my Roxio creator basic 9 still cannot detected any drive in my laptop.

Do you have any idea?

Look in post #11, at the bottom, in the posters signature.

#5 is a link to the PxEngine update.When you originally ran it it wouldn't do any good if Windows didn't see the drive.
If Windows now sees the drive yet Roxio doesn't then running it,with Roxio already installed,may possibly fix the problem.

Although the missing icon still happened even it is not frequently happened than the previous day. Audio CD's able to run in it. I think burning CDs also worked. Perhaps, LightScribe is not functioned because Roxio do not detected any drive(s).

What so ever, next week is the week where I must sent this laptop to HP Center for services addition my warranty still can be use as it will expired on or after June 26, 2008.

Hi. I have a similar problem. I found the registry key and deleted the filters but I also noticed that I have more than one of the exact same registry key with slightly different keys - like 8-9 of them! Is this normal? Anyway, Although I have my DVD/Cd drive back in my drive list, Roxio 10 is still not recognising it. It is still showing NO DRIVE DETECTED! Help.....any more suggestions please?

The registry key is a Microsoft setting - that's something you would have to ask them about

If Windows sees the drive, then that's not the problem. Let us know the make and model of the drive itself

Slightly different keys, aren't the same!

In my signature # 7, Drive Not Recognized By Roxio, try PX Engine 3_00_58a if that don't work try PX Engine 4.10.28a.....Reboot after downloading each version and running them from your hard drive..

Hey. I messed up by deleting all the upperfilters for all the regkeys with the same regkey address and my keyboard and mouse stopped working when I rebooted! Fortunately recover from last known config worked. so I just ran your exe and it WORKED!

You're my hero! Not sure what the exe does not it got me back my drive for Roxio and now I can burn that DVD I need for today! Thanks a lot for that!
